Home Security is something that is a real importance to any homeowner and D-Link is one of the leading brands that offer security options. The D-Link HD Pan & Tilt Wi-Fi Camera is an indoor camera that allows its user to keep an eye on your property or you could even use to keep an eye on an elderly family member especially during the current pandemic.

This camera costs £165.40 and once set up it can blend into a room without anyone really noticing it working in the background.  The camera is quite small and when it rotates it does look a little like a robot.

Let’s see if this camera is as good as it sounds?

Design/Set -Up

Setting up this camera like many of the other D-Link products was very easy simply download the My D-Link app on your phone and plug the camera in and then you have the option of connecting it to Wi-Fi or use an Ethernet cable.  In this review, I used the Wi-Fi option once connected I had to update the firmware to run once done that it. You use the app for moving the camera and for recording footage etc.

One thing you need to do in the app is set a home position this is the spot it comes back to once you have tilted or panned.

As for the design, the camera looks really nice and as mentioned it will blend into the background which is ideal for an indoor camera.  On the front of the camera, you have an LED just above lens with a light sensor positioned below. Once you tilt the camera up you will see the SD card slot which you can use an SD Card up to 256GB.

Front of the Camera

SD Card slot location

Just above the rotating base is the built-in microphone. On the back, you have the speaker and an area at the bottom has a space for the Ethernet port which supports ONVIF profile S. You also have a rest button and the Micro USB port.

The rear of the camera has the speaker, Ethernet Port, Reset Button & Micro USB power port.

When the camera is in operation and rotating you will hardly hear it move. Video footage can be archived on the SD card or via cloud recording and D-Link offers the below options in regards to keeping footage for a 7 to 30 day period. This is good to consider if you have multiple cameras inside and outside the house.

Features & Performance

The D-Link Pan & Tilt Wi-Fi Camera offers a 360-degree rotation with a 105-degree tilt this camera can cover most of the room. The 1080P 30fps full HD video quality was very impressive and did the job. Yes, you may be able to get better quality on the market which costs more. However, this camera did all I wanted.  The camera also works well in night vision and offers 5m of vision in the dark.

This camera also offers sound and motion detection and at times it can be a little sensitive but this can be adjusted via the app if needed. This camera also offers auto motion tracking which works very well in our testing and the camera will follow a person as they move around in the room ideal if you use this camera to monitor an older family member and keeping them in view.

The camera also has two-way audio which is controlled via the app and its that app that controls the panning and tilting and using the app is very easy to do. I found the app very responsive in commanding the camera and also using the two-way audio. I found the app very useful and actually quite fun especially when out and my parents are in the house on there own and I have control of the two-way audio. It can create some very funny moments. Its also very useful for checking in with an older member of the family.

The camera is also able to connect into your existing smart home set up and allows you to link it to your google assistant or Alexa smart home set up

Verdict

D-Link has produced a very good product with the Pan & Tilt Wi-Fi Camera. It offers something a lot of other security camera do not offer especially the panoramic view and auto motion tracking. It allows you to view the whole room without the frustration of something being out of view. The Camera comes with person detection meaning it will follow the person around the room.

This camera also allows you to archive recordings on your phone, microSD card or cloud recording.  If an alert is to happen you get a notification the second it happens to allow you to call the police if required at a moments notice. With the two way audio that also helps to scare an intruder off.

So overall if your looking for an indoor camera full of features this camera is the perfect option.  At £165 it’s also not very expensive for indoor security that allows you to view the whole room.
