Design

Now if you already own a pair of the TWS NB2 you might be wondering should I upgrade to the pro model. Well, there have been some big changes such as the ANC performance has been improved. They now offer AAC support for high-quality listening on music streaming sites like Tidal.  Other improvements include faster charging time and a quick charge offering.

Edifier TWS NB2 Pro Review

In terms of the cosmetic look of the TWS NB2 Pro, you won’t notice much of a difference they still keep that V-shaped steam that l think looks quite futuristic. They also offer an IP54 rating which means they are dustproof and can handle low-pressure spray for 10min meaning they should be found in the gym or if you get caught in light rain.

They operate via touch controls but are very limited in their functions you get the following:

  • Play/Pause
  • Skip to the next track – (3 taps on the right bud)
  • Call answering/call reject
  • Smart assistant

The touch controls all work well and are very responsive but it’s what is missing that is a bigger concern you are unable to skip to a previous track so thank god for my apple watch. The other missing feature is the volume controls.

Instead, the left bud allowed only allowed me to switch between game mode, Ambient mode and normal mode. I find it a bit of an own goal from Edifier to miss the skip to a previous track and volume controls just to allow you to switch modes which could have been done via the Edifier app.

Edifier TWS NB2 Pro Review

These earbuds offer Bluetooth 5,0 and support SBC and AAC codecs which is useful but if you’re looking for a pair of buds that you can connect to multiple devices look away now. The TWS NB2 Pro comes with a game mode that reduces latency down to 80ms. The low latency reduction does work nicely for racing games but for gamers who play COD, they will find the not as good as they will normally want 40ms so the latency is not as good.

Moving on to the battery it’s very much like the previous design of the NB2 you get 9 hours generally but when you turn on the ANC this you will find you get about 7 hours of battery life. The buds come with a charging case that is pebble-shaped in design with just the Edifier logo on the top and leatherette material.

The case can be recharged in 1.5 hours while the earbuds can be recharged due to fast charging. It can be done in just an hour which is an improvement on the previous model.  You will also have the option of a quick charge 15 min charge will provide 2 hours of battery life.

The Pairing process is simple simply take the buds out of the case and they will start pairing mode. Once paired there is no reconnection delay for when you next take the buds out of the charging case. You also have an in-ear detection feature that when you take a bud out it will pause your music and restart when placing the bud back into your ear.

Sound Quality

Moving to the important reason you are buying the NB2 Pro’s is the sound profile and if you own the previous NB2 model not much has changed. There is a slight bit more clarity along with that punchy bass. Edifier offers a Game mode & Spatial audio mode. The Game mode does enhance the lower frequencies to provide a more impactful gaming experience as mentioned when playing racing games.

Switching to the Spatial Audio mode and its more enjoyable experience the mids are quite laidback making for a more balanced sound and wider soundstage. The Sound quality is very bass-centric and the vocals are stronger than in previous models. This could be down to the 10mm drivers and the inclusion of AAC support.

ANC/Ambient Mode

The NB2 Pros offer that hybrid ANC approach that involves the microphones to be positioned under the ear tips as well to monitor how well of a job it is doing. I did find they blocked out most of the unwanted noise and this worked well on the way to London on the train I could enjoy my music instead of hearing conversations around me.

When you do need to hear your surroundings for example the part of my trip to work when I have to walk to the office. The NB2Pros offer an ambient mode that is also adjustable level via the Edifier app. The results of the ambient mode were disappointing when you adjust the level it did not scale with the volume meaning that it affected the overall sound.

The Edifier Connect App

The Edifier connect app is a nice mobile app to use it offers a nice clean home screen that displays the battery level of each bud. The app also provides features such as adjusting the sound of the voice prompt and also the level of touch sensitivity. You can also adjust the audio modes such as the game mode to suit your needs.

Edifier NeoBuds Pro

The downside to this app is when you make changes to the settings you can not save your changes meaning when you power off they will revert back to the default which is annoying.

Verdict

The Edifier TWS NB2 Pro are a good upgrade to the previous model if you want to increase the sound quality. These are a pair of earbuds that offer decent sound quality and also offers decent sound quality for the gamers in the room unless COD is your game.

The negatives with these buds are the fact they are missing the opportunity to skip back a track and you can’t control the volume at all which is a negative to some users but if you have a smartwatch you can use your watch for most of the controls or just get out of the phone and use the controls the old fashioned way.

Apart from they have a nice design and sound decent, the ambient mode is also a disappointment but if you can look past the negatives these are a good pair of buds with a futuristic design.
