Since the pandemic, we’ve seen a massive rise in the popularity of content creators and streamers – and the number of them too. Streaming services like Twitch and Kick have been steadily rising in traffic year-on-year, and with top personality, in the space, Kai Cenat being linked with a €300M deal (no, that’s not a typo), now’s the best time to get that set-up built.

In this review, we take a closer look at the FiFine AmpliGame A6V Gaming Microphone.

First impressions

The AmpliGame A6V is ideal for gamers, podcasters and creators looking for a compact and convenient way to record high-quality audio.

Straight away, the bright RGB lights give this mic a lot of personality, allowing it to fit right into your existing gaming set-up (or brighten up a less-than-colourful one). The mute button which tops the camera bottom is very convenient to use, as is the gain dial which sits on the bottom.  It’s also noticeably light, weighing just 500 grams.

Unboxing

The AmpliGame A6V comes with a microphone body, a shock mount and built-in pop shield, a USB to USB-C cable (2m), and a user manual.

Weighing 500 grams, the mic is incredibly lightweight and at 17.6 x 17.9 x 9.6 cm, the dimensions of the product allow it to take a minimal amount of space. Perfect for a smaller desk, or a cluttered one (no judgement here).

The shock mount can also be attached to a boom stand with ⅝” threaded insert directly. It comes in a well-presented, recyclable cardboard box which you can keep in case you need to put the mic back in.

Design

The AmpliGame A6V mic itself is a 6-7 inch cylinder. Most of the surface area is metal gridding over the internal plastic shell, which glows with RGB light.

The RGB lights built-in to the microphone add a lot of warmth and playfulness – and they really make you feel like you’re using a high-tech bit of kit.

It’s worth noting however that unlike the AmpliGame A8 microphone, you can’t manually change the RGB colour. They change and cycle automatically on the AmpliGame A6V – so if you’re looking for a specific feel or colour, or just want a static look, this may not be for you.

It’s also worth noting that while the mic is working, you can’t turn the lights off. To turn off the light, you’ll have to mute the mic or remove it from the power source altogether.

Set-up and compatibility

Like any other good mic, the AmpliGame A6V is ready to go the minute you plug it in. Most issues should be resolved by double-checking “input” in your Sound Preferences, but you can also visit the contact us page on the FiFines website for more information. It does not require any additional driver download.

If it’s your first time recording audio, this mic is fully compatible with your PS5, as well as platforms on your PC, Macbook or laptops like Audition or Audacity.

It is NOT compatible with Xbox. FiFine also don’t recommend trying to use it with your smartphone, as your device may not provide it with sufficient power to operate properly.

Audio quality

The mic offers high-definition audio quality, with a cardioid polar pattern. That means that the AmpliGame A6V automatically minimises off-axis noises and only records the person in front of it.

Combined with the mic’s internal noise gate, this is perfect for reducing background noise, either from sounds playing off of your screen, or the clicking of your controller. And don’t worry, the shock mount has a direction adjustment knob so you can swivel it around to the intended sound source with ease.
