The weather has been very hot recently, so it was time to look at an air circulator fan, and we then heard from our friends at SwitchBot with their offering. I have the robot hover, so I wanted to see what this fan was all about.
A circulator fan is a type of fan that circulates air throughout the room. Now this fan is cordless, meaning you can use this anywhere you like. It also comes with a night light and can be operated hands-free by voice command, and can be linked to your smart home set-up.
We were impressed that not only do you get the smart functions excellent, but using it as just an air circulator, such as airflow and quietness, was also quite high.
First Impressions
The size of the fan is coming in as 334 x173 x 382mm (WxDxH), its weight is 2,380g, and the blade diameter is 23cm, and the operation noise is 24dB and is also equipped with silent technology called SilenTech. The fan comes with 4 modes – Fan, Breeze, Natural and Sleep. The fan is also compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant & Siri. The battery holds up to 50 hours of continuous operation on a full charge and can be linked with SwitchBot Hub 2 or the SwitchBot Hub 3.
Unboxing
When you unpack the fan, you get the main unit, the SwitchBot Smart Curculator Fan, Remote Control, Charging Cable and a User Guide.
The compact remote control can be used for various operations, and when the battery needs replacing, you can use the CR2032 battery, which is easy to buy at your local Timpsons and can be replaced. The fan itself also comes with a 1.5m charging cable is also included which is used to charge the fan.
Build
The Switchbot Circulator has a two-tone black and white colour, with black and whit,e with many other fans coming in just white only. I found the two-tone design of this product with its sharp colour, and it will fit perfectly in any room.
The operation panel is located at the bottom of the front and is touch-sensitive. The battery level is displayed at the top of the operation panel, and also airflow rate is also displayed in the centre, making the status easy to understand just by looking at the main unit.
Turn the fan around, the back panel is white, unlike the black front, and at the bottom of the SwitchBot Circulator, there is a USB-C port, an AC charging port and a power switch. You need to keep the power switch on so you can use the operation panel, so make sure you turn it on once out of the packaging.
Lightness and size
As mentioned, the SwitchBot fan weighs 2,380g, which is lighter than it looks. I tried holding it in my arms, and it was easy to lift with one hand. The front panel can be washed with water but the fan has to be built-in motor has to be wiped clean.
Features
The SwitchBot Smart Circulator has a 3,600mAh lithium-ion battery, meaning you can use it anywhere without a cord. The battery will give you 50 hours, so it’s very practical, which means it’s useful for having it anywhere in the house. The benefit of not having the trouble of having to disconnect the cord any time you want to move the fan, and the fan is slim enough to be placed right next to your desk and become an indispensable item during the hot summer months, you will never go back to a corded air circulator.
Another feature is that the SwitchBot Circulator can adjust the airflow direction by 90 degrees up and down, and also switch left and right. This allows you to circulate the air in the room efficiently. The Oscillation speed is slow, taking about 19 seconds to go from left to right.
The SwitchBot fan also comes with an app allowing you to swing the fan left and right and fine-tune the fan’s direction. The air volume can be adjusted in 9 steps using the remote control of the main unit and in 100 steps using the SwitchBot app. Most general circulators have 3 levels, so to have 9 levels is rare to find and can be finely adjusted to this extent. You can also switch modes and choose the optimal air volume from 4 modes – Blow, Natural, Sleep & Baby.
Performance
The SwitchBot Smart Circulator has a powerful airflow, but it’s also quiet. It uses a quiet DC motor, so you can use it while you sleep or place it nearby while you work. At the first airflow level, which I found to be sufficient, it was so quiet that the only noise heard was the wind at around 20dB. The noise level is about is around 25dB at normal speed and around 31dB at maximum airflow, so although the noise is noticeable at maximum airflow, it still feels quite quiet as a circulator, so you can focus on your work.
The SwitchBot circulator can also be used at night, as the fan is very quiet and also doubles as a night light. My room is packed with a lot of stuff, so it’s hard to find a place to put it in the bedroom. This one doubles up as a circulator & night light, so it saves space. Using the night light, press the light button icon on the remote control or the main unit. You can also switch the light on/off via the app. The night light also comes with 2 brightness settings, so you can adjust it to your liking. Not only is it functional as a light.
You can also set a schedule function and automate it in combination with the SwitchBot Thermometer. For example, if the thermometer exceeds 27 degrees when the humidity is high, it would be a good idea to turn on the circulator to circulate the air when the humidity reaches 70% or above.
As mentioned, the SwitchBot Fan can be controlled by your smart home, and it can be controlled by voice using Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri. An example you can command basic functions such as “Siri, turn on the living room circulator or put the bedroom circulator on sleep mode. This is ideal if you’re in bed and you have left the remote control downstairs or in another room
Verdict
SwitchBot Circulator fan is the perfect choice in terms of both design and functionality and is highly recommended for those who are interested in smart living. During the summer, circulators are used more frequently, such as in conjunction with air conditioners. You can use it all year round, even in winter, and it’s sure to become a companion you will never want to let go of.
