Cleer Audio are a brand who is one of the premium brands in the headphone space with models such as the Cleer Arc and Cleer Enduro ANC. They now focus on Bluetooth speakers in the shape of the Cleer Scene

Cleer Audio are a brand we have always been impressed with the build and the audio quality after reviewing a number of products and in this review, we got the chance to review the Cleer Scene.

Cleer Scene Review

First Impressions

The Cleer Scene is a speaker just under the £100 mark that comes in two colour options Grey or Red.

The Cleer Scene is a stunning-looking speaker that not only looks great it sounds just as good. It comes with a stunning design, 48mm dynamic drivers, a built-in mic and IPX7 rated and comes with a 12-hour battery life which is a little average compared to others on the market.

The cleer scene is not feature heavy and that is because they have put the focus on the style and audio quality.

Design

The Cleer Scene measures 220 x 74 x 90mm and weighs in at 742g the speaker as mentioned comes in two colours grey and red. In this review, we are testing the grey version.

The design of the speaker is covered in a mesh fabric with 4 rubberised buttons on the top which control play/pause, Mic on/off, and Volume controls that also double up and act as track control.  and a metallic strip flowing across the front of the device. Considering the price it will not surprise you that the metallic strip is actually plastic but it sure does not look like plastic.

Cleer Scene review

On the front of the speaker, you will see the Cleer logo on the centre of the device with a LED bar on the base of the speaker that reminds me a little of kit from Knightrider.

Moving to the rear are two additional rubberised buttons on either side of the rubberised cover of the USB-C port. The buttons control the power and Bluetooth pairing.

Cleer Scene Review

Moving to each end of the speaker you will find a passive radiator with a metallic cone that will bounce to your favourite tunes and add style to the already stunning design.

Cleer Scene review

Concerned about the speaker being all style and not being ruggedness do not fear this speaker would be ideal both indoors and outdoors due to the fact it’s IPX7 rated. The speaker is solid in the hand just be careful not to drop the speaker and a scratch on this speaker will be very noticeable.

When it comes to connectivity the Cleer Scene uses Bluetooth 5.0 or you can connect this speaker vis a wired connection thanks to the 3.5mm audio cable.

Moving to battery life you get 12 hours of battery life which will be fine for most occasions you want music. The battery life is on par with the JBL Flip 6 & Anker Soundcore 2 but is blown out of the water compared to the LG PL7 Xboom Go which provides 24 hours.

Features

The Cleer Scene keeps things very simple there is no smart assistant or app to adjust the EQ they simply focus on the sound. However, what you do get is a noise-cancelling microphone for taking calls which allows you to have a crystal-clear conversation. This is also benefited by the inclusion of NFC something not always available in Bluetooth speakers.

What you will notice is the option of having a smart assistant is not available and this might be a deal breaker for some who like their speakers to be smart and not just do their primary function.

Audio Quality

As mentioned the focus when it came to building this speaker was firmly on the sound and the inclusion of dual 48mm neodymium dynamic drivers and dual passive radiators allows for quality audio.

The Cleer Scene provides you with refined audio that has a focus on clarity, definition and a punchy but tight bass without any distortion.  When listening to a wide range of music I felt that this speaker consistently provides a high level of detail that gives an insight into the music. Now if you are looking for a heavy bass speaker this is not for you however if you want bass accuracy over a boomy bass this speaker has to tick that box.

Cleer Scene Review

Unfortunately, sound staging is not a strong point of this speaker it will fill a room for sure but when it comes to stereo separation. You will find this speaker is very directional so as long as the speaker is positioned in front of you that is where the best sound will occur.

Overall you will get a solid-sounding speaker and if you enjoy your volume the cleer scene also has your back it comes with some serious sounding volume you will never really need to increase the volume past 50% taking it above that level just felt too loud but you will never experience any distortion even at these crazy high volume levels.

Verdict

The Cleer Scene is an excellent attempt by a brand known for its headphones. Costing £99 it’s hard to say this speaker is not value for money if your main priority is the sound quality. This speaker is very stunning in the looks department but also performs very well in the audio department.

My only negatives are I would have liked to have had the option of having the speaker compatible with my smart assistants like Siri or Google Assistant and also an improvement in the overall sound staging.

If you are looking for a more refined sound signature that is not too bass-heavy and won’t cost the world at £99 and will look the part inside the house or outside when we can have a BBQ in the summer months.
