Audio brand GravaStar is unlike any other brand we have reviewed as they pair audio products with a sci-fi style which is completely unique to anything else out there. We have been lucky to have reviewed the likes of the GravaStar Venus and the GravaStar Sirius Pro.

In this review, we continue on the earbuds trend and review Sirius P5 Earbuds which are an upgrade on the Sirus Pro and what makes the P5 model. Now what makes a good pair of wireless earbuds I would say comfort and sound quality are the top two factors and behind that, you want a long battery life.

First Impressions

The Gravastar Sirius P5 currently cost $97.95/ £83.51 and is a pair of open-ear wireless earbuds that provide a high-resolution sound quality due to the AptX codec. They come with passive noise cancelling perfect for reducing unwanted outside sounds. The buds are touch control and are connected via Bluetooth 5.2 and support multipoint connection meaning you can connect them to both your phone and gaming laptop.

The buds also come with both a music mode and also a gaming mode in which they provide 48ms of low latency. Last but not least the battery life is 8 hours on a single charge and the charging case will top you up to a total of 40 hours in total.

The USP of these wireless earbuds is the fact they come with 3 interchangeable shells that are cyberpunk inspired. The 3 cases that come with the buds are called:

Defence Armor

Defence Crystal

Defence Mecha

There will be more interchangeable cases coming in the near future but for now, these are the options and each one looks very cool.

Design

The Sirius P5 are compact in size, making them discrete in the ear and providing a nice level of comfort for long periods of use. The buds are also very lightweight weighing in at only 5g per bud. The earbuds come with that streamlined open-ear design that fits really nicely in your ear without any discomfort at all.

The earbuds have that minimalist design and come in a black matt body with a glossy finish with the gravastar logo printed on the stem. The buds are IPX4 rated meaning you could use these at the gym or if you are caught in the rain they should be fine. The charging case also comes with the same finish as the buds and durable construction.

As we continue on the design the Sirius P5 come with 3x interchangeable cases that allow wireless charging via the charging case and all with a completely unique design but all keeping to a sci-fi style. Now you can just buy the buds with just one case but if you want something that is more value for money Gravastar provide a combo pack with all 3 cases and the buds in one pack.

This is what was sent to us and the first impressions are they look great. The cases all come with click-to-open buttons on the side.

One negative I would say about the shell design is the little screw on the base of the charging unit that fits inside the shells. This screw needs to be removed each time you want to change the shell. Personally, I don’t see why it’s been included as the charging unit has a tight fit into the shell so what’s the point of the screw.

GravaStar Sirius P5

When I first took these out I did not notice the screw and was wondering why the shells would not fit. In future, I will just remove the screw from the design as not only is it time-consuming to switch over shells the screw is just pointless to have on a design front.

Last but not least all three shells come with an included necklace that can be connected to the top corner of the outer shell allowing you to wear the shell as a fashionable accessory. I as a 12-year-old would have loved this but in testing we kept the necklace packed away.

Controls

The Sirius P5 use built-in touch controls which is a very popular method on buds like these. The P5 uses integrated touch controls by taping the bud’s multifunctional button on the side of each bud this allows you to do the following:

Left Bud

Press for 3 seconds Power On
Short Press on the multifunction button Play/Pause/Call Answer/Hang up call
Double Press on Multifunction button Reject a call or Skip back a track
Press once for 5 seconds on the multifunction button  Decrease volume
Tripple press the multifunction button Activate Voice Assistant

Right Bud

Press for 3 seconds Power On
Short Press on the multifunction button Play/Pause/Call Answer/Hang up call
Double Press on Multifunction button Skip Forward a track or reject a call
Press once for 5 seconds on the multifunction button Increase volume
Tripple press the multifunction button Switching from Music Mode to Gaming Mode

Connectivity

Connecting the wireless buds is Bluetooth 5.2 which is the most current version and this is paired with Qualcomm chipset providing a 10-meter range. I was very impressed with the range my office is over 2 floors and time and time again I would lose the signal when moving from floor to floor but the P5 kept the signal without any interruptions.

What you also get with the Sirius P5 is the fact you have a multipoint connection which allows you to either connect to both your phone and laptop which really does help when gaming on your laptop and your phone rings.

The buds not only have that music mode they also have a gaming mode which thanks to that Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity when the gaming mode is activated the buds reduce the latency providing low latency of 48Ms with a virtual surround sound which ultimately allows you to pinpoint the direction of gaming sounds when gaming.

Battery Life

The battery life of the Sirius P5 buds individually has a capacity of 45mAh and the charging case has a capacity of 500mAh and the battery is a lithium-ion rechargeable battery. The buds provide 8 hours on a single charge and that charging case offers 4 additional full charges allowing the users to have 40 hours of battery life in total.

  • 8 hours of playback on a single charge
  • 4 full charges = 32 hours of battery life

The charging case when needed to be recharged will take 2 hours and is charged by the provided USB-C charging cable via the charging port which is next to the RGB Light button. (Please note these buds are not supported by fast charging).

What you will also notice is the buds have that indicator light on the buds they will light up white when in use and red when the buds are being slotted into their charging case.

The charging case also comes with an RGB indicator light that is positioned on the side of the case and that indicated the battery level. The RGB Light can also be customised and you can select the following colours:

  • Red
  • Blue
  • Green

Audio Quality

The most important factor when considering your purchase of earbuds or headphones for that matter is the audio quality and the Sirius P5 does not disappoint.

They pump out fantastic sound thanks due to the 12mm dynamic sound drivers that are paired by Qualcomm aptX high-def audio and they help provide a quality wide range of sound frequencies.

I have recently discovered the new song “When Someone Loves You by Emeli Sande and Nile Rodgers”. When listening to this song on the P5s you get crystal clear vocals paired with a bass that is set just right not too much just a punchy bass that you will enjoy. If you are looking for bass-heavy buds these are not for you.

You will also notice the mids and highs are crisp and clear making the track we were listening to a joy to hear. These buds are also great when it comes to audio separation the buds come into their own the guitar sound from Nile Rodgers really does stand out.

The gaming mode is fine it’s not the best on the market but it will do we tested these while playing COD and you will notice a slight lag but could still hear gunshots and footsteps of over players fairly well.

When listening to podcasts I found the vocals are loud and not distorted at all which was really nice when I was listening to my weekly episodes o my favourite podcasts.

You will also notice the buds will allow for voice calls and we found the built-in mics provide high-quality calls meaning you can be heard clearly and the person you speaking to is also heard clearly.

The buds are also supported with a level of passive noise cancelling that when enabled is used to block out some external noises offering a more immersive experience. Passive noise cancelling is more down to the design of the bud and the fit in your ears.

Verdict

The GravaStar Sirius P5 would make an excellent Christmas present for someone who likes sci-fi and gaming and wants a pair of buds with high-quality audio. The 12mm dynamic drivers and aptX codec support quality audio and the environment noise cancelling (Passive noise cancelling) does a good job of reducing unwanted outside noise.

The touch controls are easy the master after a few uses and you will never have any trouble with connectivity due to the Bluetooth 5.2 and multipoint connection ideal for connecting to two devices at once. When doing some mobile gaming the gaming mode will provide a low latency of 48ms which could be improved in future models.

Battery life is just incredible at 8 hours on a single charge and up to 40 hours with the charging case as well. The fact these are very comfortable means you could use these for hours on end. You will really struggle to find a pair of earbuds on the market that offers a better battery life.

Clearly, when it comes to the star of the show it’s the interchangeable shells and that sci-fi design that really make these buds stand out. If I had to find a negative I would say its the bottom right of the case that you need to remove to change the shells I just do not see the point of this screw and I would much prefer to be able to switch the shells over faster it just feels like a poor design element if you ask me.

Price wise the combo is currently available for $97.97/£82.76 or if you are not too concerned about switching the shells you can also buy them with just one case for a reduced amount via the GravaStar website what you will notice is Amazon does not seem to have the full range currently and are only offering the defence Armor option.

So if your looking for an alternative to the airpods and love a pair of bids that will stand out compared to anything else on the market these are well worth considering.
