With Christmas around the corner, you might be looking to get the gamer in your house and JBL has come up with a couple of options the JBL Quantum One (£229.99) & JBL Quantum 300 (£59.99) which are part of the quantum range.

JBL Quantum range

In this review, we will be testing both but first is the JBL quantum one gaming headset is the flagship product of the JBL quantum range that provides excellent sound at an affordable price tag for some but if you are on a budget get saving.

The JBL Quantum One can be used on a variety of gaming consoles such as a PC, Playstation, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch as you can use either the 3.5mm jack or USB-A to USB-C cable is also included. You can also use the headphones in a wireless mode they provide great audio quality to really bring you into the game.

Design

The JBL Quantum One scream premium in terms of design even the packaging gets you excited. The gaming headphones are light at 369g and they also offer a nice level of comfort and the ergonomic design keeps you comfortable for long periods of gaming. At times you will not even notice them on.

The design of the Quantum One is seriously eye-catching with the JBL logo on each cup and when you power them up they light up and look very impressive but this is only when using them on a PC if your using them on a console such as PS4 or Xbox One the lights on the earcups won’t light up which is a bit disappointing as it goes towards the overall design.

When using the voice chat on Xbox or PS4 the 3.5mm jack allows you to do so but it’s not plain sailing you might experience some technical issues whereas when I used them on the PC I had no issues.

Performance

The JBL Quantum One fitted perfectly around my ears and my sons who helped me review them. I found the seal around my ears worked really well and blocked out 99% of outside noise. When playing games such as Call of Duty or Red Dead Redemption and the audio quality is simply awesome it provided us with so much detail that was crystal clear and this is thanks to the customizable surround sound.

I really like the spatial audio technology as to where ever I faced the audio would move with me. If you find issues with this there is a small button to bring the audio back to the centre just make sure you’re facing straight ahead. A slight negative I found was using the microphone I found I would need to position it very close to my mouth otherwise it would not pick up my voice and this was a little annoying.

Overall I was very happy with the audio quality in-game and the seal prevented any outside noise which is great when am playing COD and the wife has the hover out. When talking to friends online the Quantum One does fall down a little and that is a little disappointing.

Verdict

The JBL Quantum One is a fantastic pair of gaming headphones that work on a number of different consoles and PC. It’s when used on a PC they really shine with super clean audio and a powerful microphone even if you have to have it close to your mouth. I also love the lights you get on the earcups when playing a game on a PC.

I found the inclusion of the spatial sound technology allows the sound to travel even with a few issues in testing it worked really well.  The only other negative apart from the mic being so close to my mouth was the fact this is a wired headset and some gamers might want that wireless connection and if that is the case these are not for you. Personally, it was not an issue as I prefer an enhanced audio quality with that wired connection.

So if your looking for one of the best gaming headphones with that wired connection these should be very high on your Christmas list just save up as at £229.99 it will make a dent in that Christmas budget.
