This is the second review we have done from audio brand OneOdio after the OneOdio A30 ANC Headphones. In this review, we have had the opportunity to review the A71 Wired DJ headphones. They are very different from anything we have reviewed in the past for example they are designed for those whose passion is to mix music but still have that overhead design.

First Impressions

ONEODIO A71

As mentioned this is a headset not a pair of headphones so forget about taking these on your way to work. They are designed for DJ’s and it just so happens I have a friend who could help me with this review.

The key features of this headset are:

  • Share port technology
  • 3.5 to 6.35mm stereo capabilities
  • Foldability
  • 95mm earcups

When the box arrived it’s has a very simple design of the image of the headphones on the front with some of the features to the rear. It’s quite basic and does not really scream buy me. Now cost wise the A71 come in at £26 (Was £34) This is quite cheap considering their main function and why you would buy these in the first place so became very sceptical in the rest of my time reviewing this headset.

Open up the box and you are provided with the headphones, User guide, Warranty card, AUX cable and 3.5mm to 6.35mm connector which is a cable designed to plug into an amp. You also get a vinyl bag with the OneOdio logo on the front and also some warranty information on the back. Am not really sure why they put that on the bag but am sure someone will find it useful.

You will also notice the headphones have a port on either side and this believe it or not is for dual listening but more on this feature later.

Design

The A71 headphones are mainly made of plastic and they use PU leather (synthetic leather) on the cups. If I am honest this makes the product feel a little cheap.

The headband on the model we are reviewing is black with red stitching used and the logo on the top of the band. The band also has the same PU leather with some cushioning to provide some comfort. So you will find the PU leather is used on both the band and the earcups and although cheap-looking they are quite comfortable.

We tested these out and had no fatigue even when using them for several hours when listening to music on a wired connection or even using these for gaming. The fact the earcups are that over-ear design means they will sit flush on your ears and also add to the comfort.

Finally, the style of the outside of the earcups is a shinny vinyl pattern that I feel with everyday use could be scratched very easily.  You will also notice the cups are rotatable adding to that comfort element as well as aiding for a flush fit on the ear which will result in a lack of audio leakage.

Last but not least you will also notice the sliders this allows any user to adjust the headset to the perfect size. They are made of metal meaning they should be quite durable but you will notice they can be a little stiff and unfortunately this gets a little worse the longer you use them I kept an eye on this over a two week period and found they become stiffer.

Audio Quality

The OneOdio A71 have 40mm drivers built-in and I have to be honest the sound was impressive. They offer a strong bass and the mids stack up quite well unfortunately the highs are somewhat of a letdown. When listening to a track like Queen …. The high tones simply fail they end up with a slight crackling coming out inside of a glorious high from a track like this. So if you can sacrifice the highs from a solid bass and decent mid-tone then these are to be considered.

As most of us are still working from home to a degree or use these for online gaming the A71 does not fail with its built-in microphone. When testing the mic it was clear without any distortions. The only slight negative is the mic is not adjustable which might annoy some users who want to position the mic best for them.

ONEODIO A71

Last but not least another feature they have is dual listening capability. This allows another person to musically plug into your pair and listen to the same track. I have to be honest why would you need such a strange feature who would use such a thing. It would be interesting to hear why OneOdio felt it was a feature anyone would want. Just tell your mate to put the same song on as your problem is solved.

Verdict

Looking at the OneOdio A71 they are not a bad headset for gaming or for part of your mixing music set up. They can also be used for every day listening to music if you have a 3.5mm port on your phone. I was unable to use these with my everyday phone but had test devices that did offer the 3.5mm port. However, having a cabled connection on my way to the office would simply annoy me since I have joined the wireless world.

The overall design of these headphones do offer a nice level of comfort but the plastic build and PU leather used just screams cheaply made. This does not improve when you consider the audio quality. Yes, you do get a decent bass but it’s that high that just fails to provide the wow factor will put some people off making this purchase.

So there is clear room to improve with the A71 but if you’re looking for a headset that will be decent for making a zoom call and when gaming these are worth considering however if you are looking to use these for every day commuting to work then look elsewhere.
