Since its announcement in March at GDC 2023, we have been eager to play King Arthur: Legends Rise, the upcoming release from developer Kabam. Kabam has released PC and mobile games since 2006, including well-loved titles like The Godfather: Five Families (2011) and Star Wars: Uprising (2015). Although open beta testing was launched for King Arthur: Legends Rise in the US, Australia, Norway, Sweden,  Finland, Denmark, the Philippines, and Hong Kong, most players all over the world haven’t had the chance to try it out yet. So what can we expect from the game when it comes out?

A Return to Camelot

Kabam is no stranger to the tales of Arthurian legend, with a history of games including Kingdoms of Camelot (2009), Kingdoms of Camelot: Battle for the North (2011), Heroes of Camelot (2013), and Blades of Excalibur (2014). It’s easy to understand why this setting provides so much appeal, with its epic lore and tales of heroes, dragons, and magic. Many other games have been set in this time and place, like the online slot Merlin: Journey of Flame, one of many new games. Games set in Arthurian England have always been popular, and are likely to continue to be. King Arthur: Legends Rise returns to this setting, which is sure to excite fans of swords and sorcery.

Players play as King Arthur himself, and wield the legendary sword Excalibur. In the game, Arthur must defend Camelot from the forces of an evil king who aims to control all of England. To do this, he must use the dark powers of a dragon trapped inside Excalibur itself, assembling a team of other heroes including knights, rogues, and mages. The player will be able to explore the vast, epic open-world setting of Camelot and its surrounding areas.

Squad-Based Gameplay

King Arthur: Legends Rise is an RPG, a genre in which Kabam has proved its expertise. The quests in the game are inspired by the real legends of King Arthur, and include battling various mythological monsters as well as enemy combatants. Battles are turn-based, and can be PvE (player vs environment) or PvP (player vs player), so you can play alone or with friends online. Crossplay between PC and mobile will also be possible. To help you on your quests, you can collect equipment such as weapons, and powerful Relics to upgrade your weapons.

Dazzling 3D Visuals

Although many mobile games have limited, basic visuals, King Arthur: Legends Rise looks extremely pretty from its official preview trailer and the screenshots available. Its 3D graphics are based on the powerful Unreal Engine 5, which we can see the benefit of in the trailer’s footage.  The art design looks stunning too, with memorable characters and enemies— especially the fearsome dragon at the end of the trailer. The game looks sure to be an aesthetically pleasing as well as engaging experience.
