When you think of the brand D-Link you instantly consider security cameras, smart home tech and the gadget to connect them all the internet routers. Now with Wi-Fi getting faster with Wi-Fi 6 or the continued roll-out of 5G. You might be looking for a new router and in this review, we will look at the D-Link Engle Pro AI Ax1500 R15 Smart Router.

The D-Link Eagle Pro AI  AX1500 R15 smart router is currently available for £59 from Amazon.

Design

With the D-Link AX1500, the first thing you will notice is it comes in white which is unusual for a router they are normally black in colour.  The shape of this router might be seen on a Star Wars film it’s very futuristic.

This router has 4 antennas and at the front comes with 4 LED’s to indicate the power, internet connection and if you are on either 2.4GHZ or 5GHz connectivity.

The Rear of the AX1500 is as you might expect lots of vents to keep the router cool and the Internet in port, 3x Ethernet out ports and a power port. Once you plug this router in, it will start up automatically as there is no power button as the router is expected to stay on. Also on the rear of the device is a WPS button if required.

Set-Up

The AX1500 in regards to performance is one of the best out there however, it’s not just a router it’s an extender for your current set-up as well.

Setting up the AX1500 can be done in 15 minutes max that if your a tech novice got a bit more skill then you should be able to set up the router. You will need all the normal details for your internet provider such as username and password.

Simply download the Eagle Pro AI app and follow the instructions it’s easy to do promise just make sure you plug the router into power. The router also comes AI-ready and this allows you to have stress free signals as well as offer speed.

Performance

As mentioned earlier in this review the AX1500 comes with 2 bandwidths 2.4GHZ & 5GHZ and the router will automatically know how many devices are connected and balances to each bandwidth. If you then connect a device that will have more bandwidth the AX1500 will move that device to a less congested bandwidth allowing you uninterrupted signal.

The AX 1500 supports up to 1500Mbps speed and in our testing, we ran several devices at once all connected to the Wi-Fi and an additional device via the ethernet cable and the results of the test all performed very well. The internet connection was smooth on all devices. We have an old house and even having devices in different rooms did not seem to cause it an issue. The AX1500 is also backed up with M15 mesh nodes which you can dot around parts of the home to spread the Wi-Fi to any areas that are normally out of range.

The AX1500 also comes with Wi-Fi 6 which is for the gamers in the house mainly my sons. The result was low latency when playing games such as COD it allowed us to play uninterrupted and the signal was consistent. You also have a guest mode on the router ideal if your child has a friend round. You can also set up the data speed as well as Wi-Fi quality.

The AX1500 also has an AI parental control that can be set up via the D-Link admin panel on the Eagle Pro AI app you downloaded when setting up the device. This lets you set up multiple devices (12 max) and that allows you to schedule access to the internet at certain times of the day. Preventing them from watching Nexflix’s or searching the net till all hours.

Verdict

The D-Link AX1500 R15 Smart router allows you to connect multiple devices ideal for the growing smart home devices we all buy in fact it can connect up to 128 devices at once. Making the D-Link AX1500 R15 future proof.

Positioning is also something to consider when setting the router up I had this set up at the front of the house and it provided a strong signal throughout. D-Link also allows you to reduce the Wi-Fi range and the AI Patental tool allows you to schedule access time.  The Intelligent AI features and Wi-Fi 6 range offers up to 230 square meters and this makes the router well worth this investment at home especially now many of us have a home office.

The AX1500 supports over 1000 Gigabit ethernet WAN & LAN and users get to use WPA, WPA2 & WPA3 Wi-Fi security.  So overall, the D-Link Eagle Pro AI AX1500 smart router is simple to use and everything is controlled via the Eagle Pro AI app. The app allows you to see what is connected and how much bandwidth is being used.

The Smart features such as parental access settings, guest networks and smart assistant integration as well as notifications on your phone when required such as network issues. The device is hard to beat when it comes to routers on the market.

At £59 it’s well worth the investment especially if you’re looking for Wi-Fi 6 router with AI features.
