One of the most bizarre examples of the interweaving of culinary and media is video games, because in them food is presented not only as something visual and aesthetic (this is the case on television, in cinema and painting), but also as an interactive element that reveals new facets for human interaction and art.

For example, games give the user a unique opportunity to experience the effect of satiety or evaluate the “nutrition” of food through their avatar in a virtual environment, giving the character new properties, useful skill upgrades and other buffs. In this article, we decided to introduce you to interesting mechanics of the culinary craft and various cult dishes using the World of Warcraft video game as an example.

The role and form of food in the World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft has food and drinks. Although players are not required to drink or eat, keeping your character well-fed can be beneficial. Food restores health over time and is as important a resource as gold or raw wood in the game. Food and production costs also play an important role in World of Warcraft’s economy. These indicators, related to the recruitment of all new units – both workers and military, are of great importance for the accumulation and strengthening of resources, unless, of course, you have to play without WOW powerlevel service.

Blizzard’s MMORPG boasts a large number of professions, from blacksmith and engineer to fisherman and alchemist. Don’t skip the culinary arts either. WoW is full of rare recipes that can be obtained from a professional teacher, purchased at the auction house, or found while wandering in the open world. Among them are not only cooking instructions with useful buffs, but also recipes that can literally change your appearance. The most popular is the Mysterious Spicy Delight.

A well-known fish dish can turn you into a bloodthirsty pirate or a secretive ninja for an hour. So the developers remind us that food not only gives people vitality, but also allows you to feel like a part of another culture. Many fantasize about being dainty Frenchmen in berets when they get the chance to taste snails in garlic sauce, or fantasize about Japanese pop culture over a serving of rolls.

Useful food in terms of WoW

Eating certain foods in World of Warcraft grants the Satiety effect, lasting from 15 minutes to 1 hour. This effect is different for each dish, so let’s take a look at the most interesting, strong, and healthy food that has ever existed in WoW.

Pumpkin Sweets

The dish was introduced in The Burning Crusade and is only available during the in-game Hallow’s End. Consuming these sweets increases your movement speed by 4% for 30 seconds, and this effect stacks with repeated use of sweets (up to 6 times). However, each sweet eaten also has a chance to inflict Tummy Disorder, which cancels movement speed bonuses received and prevents candies from being consumed for the next 15 minutes.

Angel Chop and Fighting Grub

Angel Chop was introduced in Shadowlands and is similar to Legion’s Brawler’s Chop. The “Fed” effect restores health out of combat, which can be very useful in the open world for specializations that do not have corresponding spells.

Fizzy Apple Cider and Darkmoon Firewater

This culinary duo allows players to gather resources faster. This is especially useful if you’re going to be mining in expansions that don’t have enhancements like Enchant Gloves – Gather Shadowlands Resources. Apple Cider is only obtainable during Winter Veil, and Fire Water is only available during the Darkmoon Faire.

Smoked worg steak

Quite a niche dish for PvE content, but incredibly strong in PvP. All player characters are considered humanoid, so this steak, like Tracking Hunter Humanoids, allows you to see the location of enemy players on the minimap.

Smoked Turkey and Thick Cranberry Sauce

These dishes are available during the Pilgrim’s Feast celebration. Their strength lies not only in the fact that they increase two characteristics at once, but also do it in percentage terms, thereby remaining relevant regardless of the addition.

Sporeling Appetizer and Spicy Mammoth Treat

Sporeling Appetizer and Spice Mammoth Treat from increased various pet stats. These items were useful not only for hunter beasts, but also for warlock demons, mage elementals, and undead death knights.

Bear tartare and fried albula

Bear Tartare have a similar effect and briefly increases movement speed after killing an enemy. This is an indispensable food for those who like to go through ancient raids and dungeons.

Continuation of the culinary Warcraft history in books

It is not surprising that the universe, which started back in 2004 with billions of fans around the world, has found its continuation in other areas – merch, books, cosplay, etc. However, in 2016 World of Warcraft fans were pleased not just with a book, but with a culinary collection. A large book of recipes from the game adapted to real life, allows you to enjoy dishes that only the characters in the game could eat before. World of Warcraft: The Official Cookbook contains recipes inspired by existing foods in the game. You’ll learn how to truly cook Sweet Potato Bread, Hearthglen Ambrosia, Ironforge Rations, Sweet Rylak Claws, and most importantly, what these dishes taste like and whether they affect your stats.

With colourful illustrations, this book makes it easy to learn real-world cooking tricks and have a real World of Warcraft belly feast. The author of this book – Chelsea Monroe-Kassel – was previously known for several similar and quite successful books on the “Game of Thrones” and “Lord of the Rings”. Therefore, we can safely say that the book was written by an expert in interpreting recipes from a fictional world into the real one.

This author pleased us with another work of book and culinary art in 2021 – World of Warcraft: New Flavors of Azeroth: The Official Cookbook. The new culinary bestseller based on the legendary World of Warcraft universe contains more than 70 recipes that will make levelling your culinary skills as exciting as the battle for Azeroth. The book is authorized by Blizzard Entertainment, the developer of the game. The reader will embark on a culinary adventure through the World of Warcraft universe alongside the intrepid Chef Nomi, who has travelled across Azeroth for many years collecting recipes from all lands, from Northrend to Zuldazar.

Each chapter of the book is dedicated to one of the territories of Azeroth and contains detailed step-by-step recipes for dishes that are honoured here.
