With Christmas get-togethers just around the corner, you might be looking for a new Bluetooth speaker and with the market stacked with brands offering you something different in this review, we are focusing on House of Marley Get Together Solo.

Who is the House of Marley

House of Marley is an eco-friendly brand that focuses on sustainability and superior quality with there a range of speakers, Headphones & Turntables that keep to their roots by using mindfully sourced materials including bamboo, FSC-certified wood, recyclable aluminium and recycled fabric.

First Impressions

House of Marley has a range of speakers under the Get-Together brand from the Get-Together Solo we are reviewing. As well as the Get Together 2 mini and XL models and the Get-Together Duo model.

The House of Marley Get Together Solo currently retails for £79.99 and uses a combination of bamboo and house of Marley executive recyclable fabric Rewind Fabric which is 30% reclaimed hemp, 30% reclaimed organic cotton and 40% recycled PET.

Design

The House of Marley Get Together Solo comes in at 20cm x 13cm x 10cm (HxWxD) and boasts a 0.75-inch and 3.5-inch driver which sounds better than it looks on paper. Build wise the speaker has bamboo on the front with cutouts for both drivers. The side panels are covered in that black rewind fabric material.

On the top panel is a set of controls with raised buttons that include buttons for power, BlueTooth pairing and plus and minus which are used for volume or track control. The power button allows you to cycle between Bluetooth 5.1, and AUX & RCA inputs and also controls the power. You will also see a small LED as an indicator when the speaker is on.

On the rear of the speaker, they keep things simple with just the USB-C port, 3.5mm AUX port and RCA ports which also comes with an RCA cable for linking up to something like the Stir it up turntable.

Last but not least the speaker also has a large capacity battery (5,200mAh) on a single charge it will provide you with up to 25 hours of playtime. Overall the style and build of the speaker will look great both indoors and outdoors and also has the ability to pair a second speaker for a stereo sound.

Audio Quality

The audio quality on the Get-Together Solo does provide you with a solid bass at low and mid-volume levels. Unfortunately at top volumes, the speakers distort on the tracks with deep bass. It’s not a deal breaker if you keep the volume at 70% the distortion won’t be too much of an issue.

Moving away from the bass this speaker boasts a crisp and tight sound that seems to prefer the higher frequencies without being too bright providing a more natural sound. When listening to pop music you will enjoy the energetic vocals as well as multi-layered percussion making for a more natural sound without the bass taking over.

Overall after I tested this speaker on a wide range of tracks you will find it did provide plenty of detail but at the same time losing the wider soundstage and that all-important bass.

Verdict

The House of Marley Get Together Solo comes with a great-looking design that really does focus on sustainability but looks good.  Unfortunately, if you are a bass fan this speaker will disappoint. However, If you want a speaker that will do the job if you keep the volume at a moderate level.

To summarise, The Get Together solo speaker makes for great value at only £79 and as long as you are happy to go without the bass this speaker comes with a crisp, clean sound its ideal for enjoying some music in the home or playing some summer tracks while getting the barbecue out and a cold beer and enjoying some music while enjoying the weather.
