The Lypertek Levi -True Wireless Earbuds currently £69

Overall Performance: 3.0 out of 5.0 stars

The Lypertek Levi is the second pair of True Wireless earbuds that I have had the pleasure of reviewing for What Gadget after the Lypertek PurePlay Z3 (Formally Tevi).

The Levi are a very comfortable pair of earphones that offer passive noise isolation due to their ergonomic design that suits for most occasions from the travelling to work or hitting the gym these will be just fine.

The key features of the Levi are:

  • 6mm Neodymium dynamic drivers
  • Qualcomm Chipset
  • Bluetooth 5.0
  • 40 hours playtime
  • IPX5 Rated
  • Quick Connect Pairing
  • Ambient Sound Mode

Design

The Lyoertek Levi true wireless earbuds are made of plastic which considering the cost £69.99 it’s not a surprise as they do fall in the budget part of the portable audio market. They also come with a charging case that is also made of plastic. The case has a black grainy design with the Lypertek logo on the front of the case and you also have 4 LEDs that indicate the number of charges you have in the case.

On the base of this case is the USB-C charging port. Inside the case you have two mini magnets each side to keep hold of the buds so they do not fall out; this is paired with the lid having a magnetic inside that makes sure the case does not pop open accidentally.

What is slightly unexpected is that Lyertek has made the case so you can charge it wirelessly as long as you have a wireless charging device.

Features

Moving to the buds they are also made of plastic and have a lightweight design and come with a unique button placement which is around the side of the bud. This button is a multi-function control button which allows you to do the following:

  • Play/Pause
  • Track Control
  • Volume Control
  • Call Answering
  • Voice Assistant

Lypertek says they have placed this button so you don’t get any accidental presses but that is nearly impossible to avoid pressing the button when you take the buds out of the case. Once in your ears, I agree with the positioning of the button on the bud is great as it also means you won’t need to press the bud into the ear canal when using the controls.  Using the controls is a series of button presses that for example:

  • Volume Up – Press & hold the right bud
  • Volume down- Press & hold the left bud
  • Skip Track – double press on the right bud.
  • Smart Assistant – Double press of ether bud

You get a handy user guide that shows you all the controls so take a look before you use the buds. Also in the box, you get a USB-C charge cable & range of standard and deeper ear tips for the perfect size. The reason for the deeper tips allows for a better fit and more importantly passive noise isolation.

An additional feature you get with the Levi buds is the ambient mode that can be switched on by pressing the multi-function button 3 times in quick succession.

Once on the ambient mode allows the user to hear some of your surroundings at the same time of listening to your music. This feature is a great option for when we had to walk through busy parts of London (Pre-Covid) it does this by using the built-in microphones to let in some of the outside noise.

Sound Quality

The Levi comes with 6mm Neodymium dynamic drivers which can also be found in there bigger brother the PurePlay Z3. What they also share in the fact they support AAC codecs will please a lot of iPhone Users.

The Levi provides some sharp highs but after a long period of use, it can feel too much and becomes unpleasant to the educated ear.  The mids provide a bright, rich and even warm sound but this is only achieved when the volume is 50% go above that and the highs and mids become hollow and provide that unpleasant sound profile.

The Levi, unfortunately, does not provide bass junkies they enjoyment they are looking for its just not very deep or punchy and if your listening to a bass-heavy song like “Bullet in the Head from Rage against the Machine” The Levi just can not handle the heavy bass in the slightest so if your a bass fan avoid these earbuds.

However, If you’re just the average user listening who listens to these at 50% volume and does not listen to any bass-heavy tracks but are more of a podcast fan the clarity in the vocals from the Levi will make you very happy. They are also quite loud which will please some users.

Battery Use

The Lypertek Levi offered the user 8 hours of playtime from a single charge which I found did last the day if you were to use these on the way in and return from work and offered me plenty of battery life left which would last a few days. The charging case comes with an additional 4 full charges totalling 40 hours of use which I found was perfect for a good week’s worth of use. (Please note that is based on 50% volume)  You also get a fast charge option which if you charge the case for 15 minutes you will get 2 hours of battery life.

Verdict

The Lypertek Levi suits a purpose if you’re an average user who has a limited budget for a pair of true wireless earbuds. You do get some decent features including the IPX5 rating, Ambient sound Mode, Qi-compatible wireless charging case and 40-hour battery life.

The buds are lightweight and the case will slip in your pocket with ease due to its pill-shaped design. The ambient mode is a great idea to have especially for someone on the move who needs to be able to hear some of their surroundings at the same time as enjoying a great song.

The sound quality will keep the average user happy but anyone with an educated ear will not be happy with these. The sound profile is very limited to 50% volume, take the volume up and the sound profile falls to bits. Keep that sound volume to 50% and the sound is sharp, bright, rich but who really wants a pair of buds that you can’t really “pump up the jam”.

If you’re happy with a pair of buds that are great in their limitations and if you are budget conscious they are an ok buy. If you can save up a little more I would recommend the bigger brother the PurePlay Z3 at only £99.
