Following our news article earlier this month about the launch of the Lypertek SoundFree S20 we have had the opportunity to have been able to have tested these true wireless earbuds ahead of there release which was on the 23rd of February.

Previous models of the Lypertek such as the Lypertek Tevi have provided users with great value paired with a very good sound and the SoundFree S20 tick both of them boxes still.

Lypertek Tevi

The Lypertek Tevi we previously reviewed.

Who is Lypertek?

The brand Lypertek has been around since 2013 but was under the name Oriveti. Fast forward a few years to 2017 a rebrand and Lypertek was born. The most well-known product they produced was the Lypertek PurePlay Z3 (otherwise known as the Tevi) The SoundFree S20 is the latest exciting offering from this young brand.

First Impressions

First Impressions of the SoundFree S20 are very stylish looking and come with a charging case that is now Qi-compatible meaning you can charge these wireless. These are all good features but the SoundFree S20 offer much more for example:

  • Easy Pairing
  • Wireless Charging
  • Ambient Sound Mode
  • IPX5 Rated
  • Voice Assistance
  • Fast Charge

Lypertek has had to pack these earbuds full of features as considering the cost £69.99 via Amazon they compete against a packaged marketplace with the likes of Sony, JVC, 1More and even from mobile manufactures like Huawei, OnePlus & Xiaomi to name a few. So cost-wise Lypertek have come in very competitive when it comes to how much people need to spend when they are looking in that under £100 price point.

Design

The SoundFree S20 earbuds are a stylish pair of earbuds that offer a good fit and they fit in most peoples ears I tested these in my ears as well as my son and fiancee ears and they provide a good fit across the board. If you do find them slightly uncomfortable Lypertek offer different size silicone tips and double flange tips so you should be able to get that perfect fit.

The SoundFree S20 is a lightweight earbud (5.1g) and they are very comfortable for multiple hour use which is really handy considering you have 40 hours of playtime in total that is 8 hours in the buds and the rest stored in the charging case which is also Qi-compatible meaning you can wireless charge the case.

The charging case is a pebble-shaped case made of plastic with a very simple design its a black matt finish with a magnetic lid which will prevent the buds from coming out when you shake the case. You have the Lypertek logo on the front of the case. Under the logo, you have 4 LED lights which indicate how much battery you have from 0-100%.

Moving back to the buds they are different from other true wireless buds we have tested as they have a silver control button on the side of each bud and that is where the controls are stored. It prevents you from pushing the bud to far into your ear and the control button allows you to do the following:

  • Play/Pause
  • Track control
  • Volume control
  • Call answer/end/reject
  • Smart Assistant
  • Ambient Sound Mode

It does take a bit of time to learn the controls as they involve a number of presses of the button and when it comes to the volume you have to press and hold. It takes some time to understand the controls and remember them.

Lypertek SoundFree S20

You will have noticed the SoundFree S20 also comes with an ambient sound mode that drops the sound allowing you to have a conversation while still wearing the buds or perfect for hearing a train announcement. Unfortunately, as we are in the middle of a pandemic and are currently in lockdown it has made testing the ambient mode difficult.

Connectivity-wise the SoundFree S20  have Bluetooth 5.0 that offer AAC & SBC coding however there is no aptX unlike more expensive true wireless earbuds on the market. Inside the buds, you are given a 6mm driver that allows for some quality audio quality which we will discuss in more detail later in this review.

I briefly mentioned the battery life earlier in this review but just to remind you the SoundFree S20 offer 8 hours of playback as long as your not at max volume. In the charging case, you get an additional 5 full charges from the case and this is shown by the 4 LED’s which show you the level of battery power. When you consider the full battery life at 48 hours of battery life it’s very impressive. When its time to charge this can be done in two ways using the USB-C cable that is supplied or simply place the charging case on a wireless charging pad.

Sound Quality

The SoundFree S20 offer a decent sound offering but do not forget the price range these sit-in they offer an enjoyable listen to the average user. They offer a well-balanced sound the highs have a bit of bite. The Mids are well presented however, the vocals are pushed forward, but this does not affect the sound quality.  The lows are well-controlled, and the bass is very enjoyable.

Lypertek SoundFree S20

Looking into the sound quality in a bit more they do offer plenty of detail and are engaged but its where the broad dynamic scale the SoundFree S20 won’t excite they are very much middle of the road. The soundstage is defined and passable scale and the overall tonality is on the warm side of neutral. All of this produces a good audio quality considering the price point they sit in.

Verdict

The Lypertek SoundFree S20 cost £69.99 which fall into that budget range but they are one of the better options considering the cost.

They are very comfortable for long periods of use and that 48 hours of playtime in very impressive. I like the fact you can charge them on a wireless charging pad which removes the need for cables sitting on your desk.

Lypertek SoundFree S20

The only slight negative I have about the SoundFree S20 is the controls they can be a little annoying to remember how many button presses for each of the controls but you will get used to that after a while its just annoying that turned on the voice assistant instead of changing track.

Overall, If you can learn the controls the Lypertek SoundFree S20 will offer a pair of buds that are very comfortable with massive battery life and under £100 what else can you ask for!
