OneOdio is a brand we have covered a few times here at What Gadget for example the OneOdio FM1 Microphone and also the OneOdio F1 & F2 TWS. We have recently been sent the OpenRock Pro TWS earbuds.

Now OpenRock is a sub-brand of OneOdio and the OpenRock Pro is a pair of True wireless earbuds with an open ear design that on paper promises to deliver something unheard of sound with a big bass.

First Impressions

The OpenRock Pro are currently available for £129.99 and comes in a choice of two colours:

  • Black
  • White

The OpenRock Pro from the minute you see the packaging you know they are designed with the fitness fan in mind. However, they also want you to use these outside of the gym maybe when out for a walk or just in the office when you want to hear some tunes but still want your senses around you these buds can do just that.

Style-wise they remind me of the Cleer Arc we reviewed back in 2022. The OpenRock Pro has a similar build and even price if you pick the original Cleer Arc and not the new version which is over the £200 mark.

Now the Key Features of the OpenRock Pro include –

  • OpenRock TubeBass Technology
  • Open-Ear Design
  • Four Noise-Canceling Microphones
  • 46 hours of playtime
  • Adjustable Ear Hook Patent
  • 16.2mm Driver
  • IPX5 Water-Resistant

Let’s take a deeper dive into the OpenRock Pro

Design

The OpenRock Pro has opted for a hooked design where the hooked part sits over and around the top of the ear. This positions the speakers just slightly ahead of your ear it still does cover some of the ears but frees up the majority.

Under the speaker section on both buds you will find a flat, textured physical button, which lets you play/pause when you press the left side a double tap allows you to adjust the volume and holding the button for 1.5 seconds allows you to skip the track. You can also use these buds to take calls and control your smartphone assistant.

The position of the buttons is good but when on the move you might struggle when trying to change the track and you end up just playing and pausing your audio which is a tad annoying. You can link up to the companion app to adjust the controls a little but it’s something you just need to get used to.

The style and build of the OpenRock Pro are far from discreet they want to be seen and at 13g per bud, you will notice them on your ears. The way you have to place them on your ear is simple. However, not everyone in my household found a perfect fit.

As you might notice the buds seem to rest on the ear as opposed to holding the ears which is fine for most activities but hitting a hard gym session is where the problem occurs. Now if you can get past the fit issue another issue may arise sweat but the OpenRock Pro has you covered with an IPX5 rating. This gives you the peace of mind they are resistant to dust & Sweat just do not go into the shower with them as they are not waterproof.

Moving to the changing case you are provided with a large plastic shell case which isn’t that pocket-friendly but when the buds are inside they keep them magnetically secure.

When it’s time to give them a charge there is a USB-C port a small button and an LED to access the colour-coded battery status.

Features

One of the main features of the OpenRock Pro is the dual-noise-cancelling built-in mics. When you are inside that lets you handle calls, use the smart assistant and the call quality is very good. However, take these outside and the louder external sound causes quite the challenge.

The other feature to mention is the battery life you get a total of 46 hours when you consider the charging case as well as the buds. A full charge of the buds should give you 19 hours which is quite impressive.

If you find you are using all that amount of battery life and need more the OpenRock Pro comes with a quick charge feature that after 5 minutes of charge you are given 60 minutes of playtime.

Sound Quality

When we received these open-ear design headphones I got a flashback to the 1More Fit SE S30 that struggled with offering a solid bass so how would the OneOdio version stack up?

Well, the fact the OpenRock Pro uses 16.2mm drivers and what OneOdio call OpenRock TubeBass Technology you will be pleased with the bass and more powerful sound profile compared to what 1More achieved they give you more bass than quite a range of this style headphone that I have reviewed.

The OpenRock Pro delivers a punchier bass but this was more noticeable when I was in my office than when I got on my bike and went cycling with these playing my favourite tracks.

Indoors the bass makes its presence felt and if you compare them to a pair of Shokz Headphones for example. You get more power from the bass which results in more of a well-rounded audio that worked well across most genres of music we tested you got smooth mids with no real harshness in the treble department.

Outdoors which these are “Designed” for is where they do fall apart in that January wind we are having currently. The sound feels like it’s being drowned out even when the volume is close to max.

Verdict

If you want to use these in your office they offer a big tick by providing a richer, more powerful sound while retaining the qualities that make having open-ear headphones appealing to buy. However, if you are in a very loud environment these will struggle.

Overall, I found the OpenRock Pro to work perfectly when you are in less noisy environments for example when out for a walk or run and for times when you work from home. Hit the gym for a more energetic workout when the more sweatier you get the issues arise with the fit.

That to one side, If you still feel these are for you the open ear design does serve up a well-rounded sound profile with a better bass than I have experienced from brands such as 1More. At under the £150 mark OneOdio has done a decent job in creating the OpenRock Pro you just need to consider do they suit my needs,
