Backbone, creator of the renowned Backbone One mobile gaming controller, is teaming up with PlayStation to launch a new, exclusive version: the Backbone One PlayStation® Edition.

Backbone has already taken the gaming community by storm, launching its inaugural controller as a bridge to bring disparate gaming systems together. The device hooks up to any iPhone, allowing gamers to play their favourite console games on the go.

The new Backbone One – PlayStation® Edition features:

  • An exquisite design: The elegant colours, materials, and finishes are all inspired by the design of the PS5 console’s DualSense wireless controller, including transparent face buttons and a visually distinctive floating appearance.
  • Purpose-built for PS Remote Play: The latest version of PS Remote Play even lets you wake your PS4 or PS5 remotely, so you can play PlayStation games anywhere. The Backbone app will also feature special integrations with the PlayStation and PS Remote Play app that make the experience even more special. These include a dedicated row with new releases and updates from PlayStation and the ability to automatically deeplink you into the PlayStation app to install it onto your console remotely so you can play it later via PS Remote Play.

  • A reimagined app: The biggest update to the app so far, the Backbone app will now allow users to navigate it without the device connected via touchscreen. Now it’s easier than ever to discover new games, watch highlights, or connect with friends. As soon as you’re ready to hit play again, simply connect your Backbone device and the app will automatically transition you back from Standalone Mode to Controller Mode.

As with the original model, charging is not required as the controller is powered by the phone itself. What’s more, it’s designed to fit right in with other products in the PS5 lineup, such as the Pulse 3D headset, which connects directly to the Backbone One PlayStation Edition.

This collaboration is the latest in a series of partnership announcements Backbone has made since its launch last year, first with Microsoft six months after going to market, with Blizzard for Diablo Immortal and now with Sony. This newest announcement also follows a series of internal milestones, the company raising $40M in funding earlier this year, with plans to grow and expand, including an Android model in the fall.
