Audio brand Skullcandy are back with another new release and this time it’s in the shape Crusher EVO. First impressions these headphones offer bass to suit everyone wants why you ask?  You can adjust the sensory bass level due to a slider on the side of the headphones just like the Crusher ANC before them. These headphones also come with a whopping 40-hour battery life that also offers quick charge. These headphones also offer tile technology and you can personalise the sound level with the help of Audiodo. Plus the headphones also come with an active assistant and google fast pair so they are packed with features.

These Premium headphones are also a very comfortable pair of headphones that I would have no issue using for long periods of time. What I liked about these headphones is after long periods of use they never made me feel too hot and led to me sweating.

DESIGN

Design-wise they do use a soft-touch plastic which made me a little concerned if they could handle everyday bumps. They cost £149 I would have hoped for a more durable material used at that price.

The headband is aluminium with soft rubber inside the band to add to the comfort and a material finish on the top and a Skullcandy logo bottom of each side of the band.

However, I do feel they have missed a trick with the band. It looks dull, maybe use some branding on the headband to spice it up a bit and looks a bit unfinished.  The cups are made of real leather adding to that premium finish. The headphones are available in two colours True Black or Chill Grey.

The headphones do fold when not in use due to the folding hinges and the cups also rotate.  In regards to the controls, each ear cup has controls. On the right you have the volume/track control buttons in the middle of a multi-function button that allows for play/pause, Call answer or call cancel plus activate voice assistant.

The right cup has the muti function button and the volume/track control buttons.

On the left bud is a little orange button which is a power and pairing button.

Left Earcup – Orange Button is the Power/Pairing button with the Bass Slider below.

I find the fact it’s orange draws your attention makes you see it’s an important button.  I have found the controls work really well and very easy to use. These headphones also work with the Skullcandy App that allows you to take a quick audio sound test to personalise the sound level and change the EQ like the Indy Evo we recently reviewed. It gives you 3 options: Movie, Podcast, Music settings. I will go into more detail about the app shortly.

Skullcandy finishes this off with a good quality roll-top carry case that also comes with a buckle to stop the headphones falling out.

Sound/Performance

The Crusher EVO runs on Bluetooth 5.0 and also runs of AAC Bluetooth codec but you don’t have aptX codec so using the high-quality streaming service like Tidal Hi-Fi. The bonus of the AAC codec is most useful when removing the audio lag when using Youtube.

With these headphones, they provide the perfect combination of bass with a custom algorithm provided by Audiodo. It allows you to create a custom sound profile for each ear as some of us have slightly different sound quality in each ear. I found this very helpful as it will adjust the EQ so you get an overall better quality of sound.  The star of the show and the crusher Evo party trick is the adjustable sensory bass. It’s great to have a play with and experience strong bass but at the misfortune of the mids sounding a little distorted but listen to the greatest showman song with the base at the top level, it will blow your mind.

If audio quality is more important then the bass keeps the slider to its minimum level and it will still give you some base but not at the expense of the Highs & Mids. I also found the good fit also provides an advantage to the sound quality as it offers a good level of isolation by blocking out everyday sounds.

Battery

Another feature to the Crusher Evo is the battery from a full charge you get up to 40 hours of use and want more you also have a rapid charging function give the headphones 10 minutes of charge and you get 4 hours of playtime if 40 hours is not enough. In the unlikely event, you run out of battery you also get an AUX cable to create a wired connection if your phone comes with a headphone jack.

The last feature to mention is the fact you will no longer worry about misplacing your headphones as they have a built-in Tile. So as long as you register with the Tile app you can ring your headphones which will create an alarm so you can find them sooner. The only downside to Tile only really works within a limited distance.

Would I buy them?

If you are a fan of insane bass then these are for you with the bass slider that takes a heavy bass track and takes it to the next level. These headphones are premium in terms of the fact they are packed with features and audio quality sound great when the base slider is at its lowest. The Style of these headphones do look good and that EQ option also offers choices for when you are listening to different things from a podcast to a movie or just chilling with some music.
