When the sun shines we get that BBQ out and play some summer tunes so it’s important to have a quality Bluetooth speaker, but picking the right one can be a challenge. Well in this review we are checking out the Sharp GX-BT60 which could be the perfect option to pump out some summertime tunes when on staycation.

Design

The Sharp GX-BT60 is a budget-friendly speaker available for £22.50 and available in the following colours:

  • Grey
  • Blue
  • Black

Sharp GX-BT60 Review

In this review, we were sent the grey version of the speaker that is a small speaker that is perfect for putting in the beach bag as it won’t take much space if you’re lucky to go on holiday overseas. The speaker is very lightweight at only 230 grams and also comes with a small strap that can connect the speaker to your beach bag or rucksack.

The design of the speaker comes with a fabric mesh on the top. In the middle of the fabric mesh is the Sharp logo. The rest of the speaker is made from hard plastic with 3 buttons on the front of the speaker – Volume down, Play, Volume up.

Move to the back and you have a power button and waterproof flap that covers the 3.5mm jack and micro-USB port. Sharp does provide you with a USB-A to Micro-USB cable and 3.5mm cable. I would say It is a little disappointing that USB-C was not used but considering the cost, it’s hardly surprising. However, they use the waterproof flap as it goes toward supporting that IP67 rating which means if it did fall into the swimming pool it would be protected or if the kids were splashing about the speaker would be safe.

Features

The Sharp GX-BT60 comes with a built-in microphone ideal for taking calls or for when using your smart assistant. Other features include the multi-functionality of the 3 buttons on the front of the speaker. If you double click the play button it will bring your voice assistant or allow you to answer or reject a call.

Also if you long-press the volume buttons for 1.5 seconds it will either skip to the next track or skip back to the last track.

The star feature of the Sharp GX-BT60 is the fact you can pair this speaker to a second for stereo quality sound. This offers a more expansive stereo soundstage and pairing them is simple just power up speaker one and hold the volume buttons until you hear “duo mode” then repeat the process on the second speaker and when you hear “duo-mode connected” and bingo you have that stereo mode.

Sound Quality

The Sharp GX-BT60 comes with a 45mm driver and 6W of power and considering it is a budget speaker the sound quality is actually quite decent. The mids and highs provide some good detail. However, the bass is a bit of a letdown it just does not pack much of a punch. and the max volume is not that loud but will still do the job when outside or used inside.

Sharp GX-BT60 Review

I have tested this speaker for the last week now and must say the speaker was not bad yes the bass is a little lightweight but the overall sound had no distortion in my testing even at max volume. If you want to give the sound a boost connect that second speaker for that stereo sound that will add to the overall enjoyment.

This speaker uses Bluetooth 5.0 and allows for up to 10 meters which means you can connect to your phone without the need to keep your phone close.

Battery Life

The Sharp GX-BT60 has a 1,800 mAh lithium-ion battery and Sharp tell you that you get 13 hours of playback and using the speaker at 80% volume gave us about 11 hours of battery life which is still impressive. When it’s time to recharge that takes 3 hours which is quite some time to do but review it overnight and you won’t have any time to wait.

Verdict

The Sharp GX-BT60 is the perfect little speaker for outdoor use for those who don’t want to spend much on a wireless speaker and at £22.50 it won’t dent your wallet.

Sharp GX-BT60 Review

The Speaker is IP67 rated meaning it can handle being by the pool when your chilling out and can even handle the odd splash if the kids are having a water fight.

Audio quality is not the worst speaker you will hear at that cost and with a max of 13 hours playback the speaker is a bang for your buck. My advice is to go and get two of these speakers and enjoy that duo-mode as it does improve the overall sound quality.
