A very low-budget gaming mouse by gaming brand SureFire, we take a look at the smart-looking SureFire Martial Claw gaming mouse.

First Impressions

My initial thoughts on the SureFire Martial Claw were that it looked like a solid and smart gaming mouse, with an intriguing swooping design on the instep of the mouse that moulds around the shape of your hand.

The mouse also has a lovely RGB strip around the base of the body, which looks very stylish. Sometimes gaming brands tend to overdo it with the rainbow LEDs, but with just a thin strip and a breathing glow on the wheel and logo, the Martial Claw has just the right amount of lights.

Design

The carved body to fit the palm of your hand is the standout design element in terms of making this mouse a gaming mouse. Other than this and a slight bump on he right side of the mouse, the Martial Claw has a rather standard build, with a simple black colourway donning the plastic shell and a traditional design for the left and right mouse buttons.

The scroll wheel sits in a glossy black plastic panel that splits the left and right mouse buttons, with a neat middle stripe of glowing LEDs. These scroll wheel LEDs have a breathing effect that looks very nice, along with the colour indicating which of the 7 DPI settings is selected.

There are two DPI changing buttons below the scroll wheel, changing between DPI setups with the top button increasing your DPI and the bottom button decreasing your DPI. This was very easy to use and made it super simple to switch between DPI’s, with the handy indicating colour letting me know what setting I was currently on.

The Martial Claw has two more programmable buttons on the left instep of the mouse that are in a good position where you can use your thumb. These buttons are just the right size, making it easy to click but also not too big where they look ugly.

The Martial Claw is built with a fully plastic body, which is pretty standard and basic, with it not feeling amazing in hand in terms of materials, however, the shape of the body being moulded to the shape of a hand compensates largely for this.

For the small price of around £18, you really can’t complain. In fact, the rigidity and quality of build is far stronger and better than some mouse’s that cost double the value of the SureFire Martial Claw, so you really get a mouse that exceeds its price tag here.

Performance

The Martial Claw is a more base-heavy mouse, meaning it isn’t a mouse that you can fling about too quickly, but it will definitely help with precision aiming in FPS games and any games that do not require quick movements.

left side of mouse

This has its cons as a more lightweight mouse is handy for switching from target to target at lightning speed, however, you can often get that flimsy feel with lightweight mouses, which is something that the more heavyweight Martial claw does not struggle with whatsoever.

The 7 options of DPI settings going up to 7200 DPI is a very welcome addition, with the ability to switch up your DPI based on what game you are playing with ease. For example, switching from Valorant where I want a higher DPI to have my cursor whizz around to something like Crusader Kings 3 where speed isn’t a virtue, I can simply press a button and boom, I’m good to go.

scroller

This is also handy even in the middle of games. If I am using say a long-range weapon like a sniper that needs precision, I can switch to the DPI setting that is a bit slower to help me with my aim and vice-versa.

If I base it purely off what I felt when using the mouse, the performance was decent, smooth and solid, with the main feeling being that it was a standard kind of mouse, but with a fancier look, the ability to switch DPI settings and with a few buttons whacked around the body.

side/back of mouse

If you went from no esports mouse at all to the Martial Claw then you would tell the difference, however, it wouldn’t exactly blow you away. There is no doubt though that when you pit the Martial Claw up against other mouses at the price range of around £15, the Martial Claw feels premium and way above the price tag.

Verdict

To summarize on the SureFire Martial Claw gaming mouse, there’s no doubt that for around £15, you are getting a solid option for a gaming mouse at an extremely good value budget price. The Martial Claw is strong and smooth, giving you a solid feel when playing and no flimsiness at all.

My recommendation would be that if you are someone who wants to have a slightly more advanced mouse as opposed to a standard day-to-day mouse, with 7 DPI settings up to 7200 DPI and a pair of programmable buttons, the SureFire Martial Claw for the low price of £15 is a very strong option to get you started.

The look of the mouse alone will have people thinking that you spent double, maybe triple the price of its actual value and when you factor in the solid performance that isn’t amazing, but does the job, you overall have a good mouse with the SureFire Martial Claw.
