In this review, we have been sent the Orb Case-X gaming controller charging carry case by Thumbs Up! This charging case is currently £34.99 and available via the ThumbsUp website and Very.co.uk.
Design
The Orb Case-X is a charging box made of ABS moulded plastic that looks very similar to a few toolboxes I have in the garage. Open the case and it stores a very different tool the case is compatible with any controller as long as it has USB-C or Micro USB ports so breathe easy Playstation & Xbox fans this charging case is for you.
The Orb Case-X is not the biggest charging case you will find it measures 11.22 x 16.66 x 20.5 CM (DxHxW).
On the rear of the case is a power button next to 4x LEDs marked with the level of charge the case holds from 25% to 100%. Also on the rear of the case is a USB-C charging port and you are provided with a USB-A to USB-C charging cable when it’s time to recharge which takes about 6 hours to fully charge.
The charging case has a battery capacity of 5,200mAh allowing you to keep your controller fully charged whenever you are ready to compete in your next gaming battle. I found this very useful as we have regular FIFA tournaments at work.
Open the case and you have an EVA Foam lining that will keep your weapon of choice perfectly safe when off to win another match at a mate’s house. There is also a purple lining to add to the design and style. I was also impressed that the foam lining will prevent any accidental damage.
Verdict
The Orb Case-X although the manufacturer states a range of controllers are compatible and they are right to a degree. If you had an Xbox one controller it’s not a great fit and the controller does not have that snug fit you might expect. It has lots of room to move around the box, therefore, adding to the risk of damage to the controller.
This charging case is designed for more of a wider controller meaning the Playstation 4 Dualshock controller is and if I was buying this for the first time if I was a Playstation user its a no brainer, however, if I was an Xbox user I might avoid it due to the size but it’s still handy to charge your controller over time.
Overall, I really found the 2-in-1 USB cable that offers both USB-C & Micro USB charging options suitable for most controllers. It’s ideal for those who enjoy gaming nights with friends and take their controller with them this case will keep you protected and fully charged.
