Mobile phone charging solutions are commonplace these days with chargers in your bedroom, living room and even on your office desk. Most chargers now support wireless Qi charging.

In this review, we have taken a look at the Twelve South PowerPic Mod which offers wireless charging within a photo frame.

First Impressions

The Twelve South PowerPic Mod costs £54.99 and comes in two colours black or White. This wireless charger is designed to look good as well as perform. In terms of a Qi charger, it provides 10W for an Android phone and 7.5W for an Apple iPhone. However, the focus in design is on it being a photo frame.

Design

The Twelve South PowerPic Mod comes with a clear photo frame that fits in a 6×4 photo. The magnetic cover allows you to swap out the image with ease. Finally, that clear lucite part also props up your phone allowing you to charge your phone.

The Power Pic Mod allows you to set the frame up in both portrait and landscape orientations. The frame also comes with a subtle LED light on each side of the frame to inform you when the frame is charging. The Power Pic Mod is finished with rubber feet to protect your table and keep it in one place.

What I like about the PowerPic Mod is you can add your own photo meaning it will fit in any room and won’t look out of place.

Usage

The PowerPic Mod looks great but when you want to swap the photo it can be a little tricky. You need to make sure the magnetic cover covers the photo so it does not stick out. When you have done that putting the lucite stand back into the base can also be tricky and may require some force.

The PowerPic Mod can also have some issues in regards to the phone you try to charge. If you have an iPhone 13 the phone has quite a thick camera module meaning the phone rests unnaturally this won’t affect the charging but on a style consideration, it looks a little odd.

Last but not least and I felt this was a slight annoyance the PowerPic Mod does not come with a 20W USB-C wall charger which will offer you the best speeds from the charger. As a product reviewer, I have more of these than I could count. However, if you are unlike me you may need to purchase a 20W USB-C charging cable.

Verdict

As you might know, there are hundreds of Qi chargers on the market so you really are spoilt for choice. However, Twelve South has created the PowerPic Mod for users who want a mix of form and function.

If you’re looking for a charger that when not in use will blind into the house or office and just act as a photo stand then this is a great product to consider, especially considering it allows for both portrait and landscape orientations.

If I had to pick some negatives charging anything other than your phone can be problematic like earbuds it does not really allow for this due to the design.

The cost is also an issue for some as the PowerPic Mod costs £54.99 and if you just want a Qi charger without the photo frame option but allows you to charge your wearables I would recommend the Xtrorm 3 in 1 charger. It’s slightly more expensive but will charge multiple devices at once but without the photo frame option.

To conclude The Twelve South PowerPic Mod offers you something completely different to other Qi chargers. It offers you a stylish design that fits nicely regardless of where you place the frame and the fact you can swap the photo means you can update the photo frame as often as you wish.

If your looking for a way to remove all the charging cables in your house or office this is a great option.
