Here at What Gadget, we have reviewed several products from Majority Audio. In this review, we are looking at a pair of bookshelf speakers, the D100. The D100 provides feature-rich speakers and powerful sound without the expensive price tag.

These speakers come with 100W of amplification and a range of connectivity options, but wired and wireless speakers. Plus, keeping the price very affordable at only £119 via Amazon.

What I like is the retro feel this speaker comes with, plus the fact that they look well built, and the speakers have the controls positioned on the side and the connectivity options around the back.

Design

The wooden cabinet design really makes these stand out and could fit nicely in my granparents’ house. They come with a stunning heritage aesthetic to these majority speakers that make them look welcoming in my home office. The D100 are bigger than the recently reviewed D80s, making them more of a bookshelf speaker, or could fit nicely via the TV providing the speakers a fair bit of presence.

The speakers have the majority logo on each of the grilles that have a fabric finish remove them, and they keep things simple looking, which is not surprising considering the cost.  Size-wise, they are quite heavy, coming in at 6.8kg, and have a decent feel for a set of speakers.

You also get a remote control included in the box, which does most of the functions you need, and on the side of the speaker, some handy dials control the volume, bass and treble.

Connectivity

The D100 impress with the vast options for connectivity, both wireless and wired. You have the standard aux and phono inputs as well as a USB port for playing on-board music. There optical port and even an HDMI ARC for connection to a TV to give you quality audio when watching a good film. The wireless option is my favourite option as I can connect it to my phone for some Spotify time via Bluetooth 5.3. There is also a voice that lets you know what mode you have. The wireless connection to my iPhone 14 worked perfectly.

Once the speakers are connected, the controls on the side of the speaker are very useful for adjusting the volume, bass and treble. I would have liked the remote controls to allow you to bass and treble, but the fact that it’s positioned on the side of the speaker it’s not a deal breaker.

Sound Quality

The most important aspect when buying any speaker is the sound, and when listening to these speakers, you get a decent level of sound and power, and also, the bass is very good.

The 100W of amplification makes these bookshelves perfect for their price range, with audio that will fill any room you have them in, regardless of what you are listening to, such as a film on Amazon Prime or listening to music via Spotify.

Play “Alice Merton – No Roots” and the soundstage is solid and decent with the mid-range, with the track’s rich vocals, and this is paired with a decent low end, which is helped by a slight adjustment of the bass dial on the side of the speaker.

Verdict

The Majority D100 speakers punch above their weight in terms of power and connectivity for a set of speakers at this price point. I like the retro style and the fact that they are well-built speakers that are paired with a solid all-around audio, and for £119, that is excellent value.
