Recently myself and my wife welcomed a little baby into our life and he is now 6 months old and is getting too big for the Moses basket. So we needed a baby monitor as the new cot is in a different room so we needed to keep a close eye.

In this review, we were sent over the Annke Tivona baby monitor that comes with a wired camera but also a wireless camera display perfect for remote monitoring.

Now the key features of this camera are:

  • Radio Frequency Range: 2400-2483.5MHz
  • Operating temperature 10 to 50°C
  • Wireless transmission: 1000 ft max
  • ¼” image sensor
  • 60° viewing angle
  • 5-meter infrared range
  • Rotational angle: 310° pan, 50° tilt

Features of the monitor:

  • 5-inch TFT LCD
  • Screen resolution: 854 x480
  • Camera modes: Single, dual, quad mode
  • Zoom: 1.5x & 2x
  • Battery life: 4000mAh = 8 hours or 14 hours standby
  • Supports up to 4 cameras.
  • Supports 2-way intercom

Design

The Annke Tivona arrives in some well-detailed packaging with a baby on the front and some of the key features we have mentioned on the sides and rear.

Inside the packaging apart from the camera and monitor there is 2x USB-A to USB-C Power supply for the camera and charging the monitor. One is 3 meters long ideally for the camera and the other is 1.2 meters for the monitor.

The camera at its base is mounted to a motorized base to allow for remote positioning. It also has a mounting nut ideal for connecting to the ceiling or linking up to a tripod. One of the best features is the rotating camera which can offer 350 degrees horizontally and 55 degrees vertically which should be enough to pan around the whole nursery.

The camera aiming is done via the cursor buttons positioned on the monitor. Other buttons include the brightness/volume. There are 3 bars (menu) and an ok button that also allows you to digitally zoom the camera up to 2 times zoom. You will also notice the cursor and arrow buttons allow you to navigate through the other menus.

There is also a microphone button that if pressed is a two-way voice communication. I have to be honest I thought this was an area that needed improvement as it was not the clearest and there was a slight delay.

Turn the monitor over and it has an integrated kick-stand and antenna flipped up to maximize the range. There is also a status LED that changes from red to white once fully charged. It’s advised to charge for an hour to start with to gain full capacity then when you need to fully charge expect it to take about 4 hours and 30 minutes to use. When charged expect about 8 hours and 30 minutes or 15 hours standby.

When you want to power up the monitor simply press the power button for 3 seconds and you will see the picture of a little baby on the welcome screen. You will notice the camera is pre-paired and will connect in a few seconds and show up on the monitor. You can also add 3 additional cameras and pressing the button with the 1 and 2 printed allows you to toggle between camera displays.

There is also a set of buttons to the left of the display we have mentioned the button that will toggle the camera display but we also have a brightness button and up and down buttons to adjust and the volume buttons using the left and right buttons. There is also a three-line button that when pressed opens up the menus which we will discuss later in this review.

The camera also has a small tail which is an external temperature sensor which is used to read the room. The reading was more accurate instead of having an inbuilt one that could overheat if the camera were to heat up. You will also notice there is an alarm feature that can be set so if the room hits a certain temperature it can alert you.

Moving to the monitor screen is quite large at 5 inches and the picture quality is very good regardless of whether it’s night or day. We found the infrared footage works perfectly even in pitch-black conditions.

The camera monitor comes with an internal rechargeable battery that holds 4000mAh of power which in turn provides the user with 8 hours of use on a single charge or 14 hours on standby. My wife did question the battery life as we felt it was less yes it would get through the night but then it would need charging in the morning.

Display

When you view the display the top left icon indicates the level of the wireless signal. You will also see which camera has been selected if using more than one and you also have the visual indication of volume levels.

Image quality during the Daylight hours

The top right has the camera temperature, time and battery level. You will also see when-in-use icons for the following:

  • Sound Detection
  • Temperature Alerts
  • Feeding timers
  • Monitor sleep mode
  • Motion detection.

At the bottom of the display, you have the current date and time.

Features

When you press the Three Lines button on the display this opens up the menus and we took a deeper look at how you can customise the display.

Lullaby

The Lullaby feature offers five different tunes to soothe your little one each tune is peaceful and plays for up to 1 minute. You can play all 5 tunes and have them repeated sequentially. You can adjust the volume via the 5 levels available the only slight negative is the tunes do sound a little distorted and this could be down to the poor speaker in this device.

Voice Detection

When voice detection levels are active and the monitor is in standby mode. Sounds will turn the monitor on and produce a beep to grab your attention.

Temperature Alerts

The Annke Tivona has temperature alerts that can be set as low as 0°C and as high as 40°C.

Feeding Timers

If you do not want to miss when you should feed your little one and want to get into a routine. The feeding timer will provide a notification when it’s milk time.

Other Timers

The Annoke Tivona can also allow you to create a custom timer or provide a monitor sleep mode that will switch off the monitor after a certain period of time.

Region

This allows the device to comply with local laws in areas such as the USA, EU & Japan. This prevents you from breaking any laws set in the location. There is also the use of a frequency-hopping spread spectrum. This changes the camera carrier frequency by a code known to the transmitter and receiver making it harder to intercept.

Verdict

We have been using the Annke Tivona as our baby monitor in the nursery and using the monitor display when we have been in the living room and had no issues in regards to signal it travelled through walls with a max of 1000ft in ideal conditions.

I was also pleased with the fact we were able to pan the camera with a max of 310° pan and tilt 50°. Moving the camera was a smooth process with no skips and the motor did not wake up my son either which was such a benefit.

Monitor being used at night mood

I was very pleased with the infrared night vision which by default will change depending on when your little one is having a nap it will give you a colour during the day and infrared during the night. If you want to zoom it works better during the day but you will notice a decrease in image quality.

What I liked about this device was the previous baby camera we used was the Owlet Cam and that was always connected to my phone. This monitor frees up my phone.

If you are looking for a baby monitor to give you notifications on temperature, motion and sounds and allow you as a parent to set up the camera via remote control aiming meaning you can view the whole room.

Overall, the Annke Tivona Baby Monitor can be used to keep your baby safe but can also be used for other home security systems. I found the always-on video was ideal for when my son was sleeping as we always had an extra eye on him. The only negative was the speaker if they improve they have an excellent device on their hands.
