Looking to add some extra sound quality to your PC or Tablet when watching a film or just listening to music a soundbar could be a worthy option. In this review, we have been sent the Groov-e Soundbar 20 let’s see if this budget option can pump up the jam.

The brand Groov-e produces budget-friendly products such as headphones, earbuds, wireless charging solutions, speakers, & DAB Radios with all the products under the £50 mark. The Groov-e Soundbar 20 costs £29. The key features of this soundbar include:

  • Easy setup
  • 3.5mm jack for a wired connection or Bluetooth connection.
  •  LED mode
  • Built-in Microphone

Design

The Soundbar 20 comes in one colour and that is black with a matt finish with a metal grille and the Groov-e logo on the front panel. The soundbar is made of plastic as you might expect considering the cost. It’s also fairly lightweight coming in at only 853g and the soundbar is not too big and will fit on most desks as it measures 450 x 60 x55mm (WxDxH).

The sound bar has 5 buttons on top of it that act as the control centre of the soundbar they offer a range of functions delivered by either a short or long press. You have the following volume control, track control, play/pause, Call Management, voice assistant and switching on/off the LED light mode.

The Soundbar 20 also come with an LED flashing indicator that is built into the front of the soundbar just under the speaker grill and will light up when the music is being played. The soundbar has 3 colours to choose from here is a short demo of it in operation.

The Soundbar also has a useful pull-out stand that can be used to hold your mobile phone.

Moving to the rear of the soundbar you have the following ports: AUX Port, USB Music Input, TF Card Slot, DC Charging Slot, and ON/OFF Switch.

Last but not least, the soundbar comes with a built-in Lithium 1200mAh battery with a micro-USB charging cable, which comes in handy but more on that shortly. In addition to the micro-USB cable, you are also provided with a small user manual to help you get started.

Battery Life

The Groov-e soundbar 20 offers up to 10 hours of playback and will only take 2 hours to fully recharge. In testing, I found the 10 hours was fairly accurate I even noticed as long as the volume is not at 100% and is at a modest 50% you could extend the battery life up to 12 hours even with the LED mode on which for a soundbar at this pricepoint is excellent.

Connectivity

The soundbar 20 is supported by Bluetooth 5.0 perfect for connecting to your mobile phone, tablet or computer without the need for any cables. However, positioned at the rear of the speaker you can play music using the micro SD card slot, USB-A port and an AUX connection for that wired connection use just need a 3.5mm audio cable as you do not get one provided with this soundbar.

Sound Quality

The Soundbar 20 has a speaker on either side of the Groov-e logo on the speaker and have them LED lights around each speaker that are on display when music is playing.  The audio power you are getting here is 20W hence the name. The audio performance is on the cheaper end of the scale but if listening to music or a podcast the sound quality is decent. If you thinking of using it to enhance a film sound I would save up as this soundbar has limitations in that department it’s a little bass-heavy and that can impact the rest of the soundstage.

If your looking for a cheap soundbar for having some music on when you have a few friends around in the summer this will do the job. If you are a little more serious in terms of audio quality but budget is a consideration still. Check out our review of the Majority Snowdon which is only £20 more but comes with much better sound quality. Alternatively, Groov-e also has several other soundbars in the range that include the Groov-e soundbar 75 for £49.99 or go all out for the Groov-e soundbar 160 for £79.99.

Verdict

The Groov-e Soundbar 20 offers a decent amount of battery life and the sound quality is not the worst on market I found I got a decent soundstage for the money so keep your expectations low and you won’t be disappointed.

I was pleased with the weight of the soundbar meaning you could use it in the house, or garden or even take it on a little trip away and it will perform well if it’s just a small audience. Consider where you place the soundbar as having it in a large room won’t sound great.

That to one side the soundbar does come with a variety of audio outputs so you won’t feel limited to just Bluetooth which will please users who want to play a playlist downloaded to a micro SD card or connect it via AUX port for that wired audio.

I found the LED lights that come on to the music a nice touch. Groov-e has packed a lot into the functionality and kept to a minimal design all for £29.99 it’s a decent option for someone counting the pennies.
