The VOLTME Revo Duo 30W GaN charger takes less space while retaining the same level of power and offers fast charging.

In the review, we continue covering the VOLTME Revo range after reviewing both the VOLTME Revo 140 GaN charger and the Revo 65 GaN charger. This time we look at the Revo Duo 30W GaN Charger.

VOLTME REVO SERIES

First Impressions

The VOLTME Revo Duo 30W comes in two options 2x USB-C ports or USB-C & USB-A combination and cost £14.99 and both plug combinations are available in either black or white.

Now the Revo Duo is a GaN charger which stands for Gallium Nitride Charging. Which is a 100% increase in operating frequency, an upgraded circuit board structure, provides a more reliable charging experience. Now the sample we were sent of the Revo Duo 30W comes with two ports USB-C & USB-A ports.

Design

The Revo Duo 30W can charge 3 times faster than your conventional wall charger. This charger supports PPS, Power Delivery 3.0 and the latest GaN III technology. Just like the Revo 65W it comes with its own V-Dynamic smart chip to help intelligently regulate heat and manage power output between both ports.

Now VOLTME stay consistent with the build and offer that premium build paired with an indicative LED light to show when charging is happening. Size wise the Revo Duo measures 1.7 x 1.3 x 1.4 (LxWxH). This allows it to be portable if you need to take it with you when you head out.

On the front of the charger you are given 2 ports the USB-C port at the top and the USB-A port below. You will notice both ports come with an orange internal tab which is done just for the visual appearance and which way you need to insert the plug.

VOLTME Revo Duo 30W GaN Charger (USB-C & USB-A) Review

In terms of the type of plug we have been given the UK version which is a standard UK plug but the EU and North American versions use a folding design allowing you to collapse it for travel.

Charging capability

As the name may suggest the Revo 30 will provide the user with a max of 30W. What this means is if you are an Apple user and have an iPhone 12 to take the battery from 0% to 50% this will take 30 mins and in just under 1 hour you will reach 100%. If you are an Andriod user for example you have a Samsung S21 you will be able to have a maximum speed to charge the device.

Now the Revo 30 has intelligent charging so if you are using the USB-C port and your device is meant to charge at a lower wattage it will provide the correct level of charge. Now the USB-A port offers a max charging speed of 18W.  So if you are using both ports 30W is the max outlay across both ports. So each port will only offer a max of 15W.

Now the Revo 30 is compatible with most devices especially if they use the Type C or Type A USB.  Now VOLTME recommends you use the following ports for the following devices:

  • USB-C Port: MacBook Air / iPad Pro
  • USB-C or USB-A Port: Tablets, iPhone and Android Phones (Samsung)

Safety Features

Now the Revo 30 is just like the rest of the range as in there is a number of safety features for example:

  • Built-in short circuit protection – This prevents your device from getting damaged by a shorted-out wire.
  • Over-Voltage Protection – This will detect how much current your device needs and provides the right amount.
  • Temperature Sensor – If the device gets too hot the charging process will automatically shut down.
  • GaN Technology – GaN semiconductors are considerably faster and safer than transitional silicon. They also draw 40% less energy so your charger is not wasting any extra power and this provides a much more efficient charger.

Now when using the Revo 30 or any of the Revo range they recommend you use the device’s original charging cable or we recently reviewed the RUGD Rhino cable that will be able to handle the 30W of charge

Verdict

The VOLTME Revo 30W Dual GaN III charger continues the trend of being a well-designed and well-engineered piece of technology. I was pleased by the pocket-sized shape making it a very portable charger.

The fact it only offers 30W via the two ports is good for charging your phone and tablet but for anything that needs more power,  this would not be right for you. Instead, consider the Revo 140W or Revo 65W we have reviewed or even the Revo 100W.

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly and well-built charger to charge multiple devices and provide your devices with an extra level of safety with the likes of Power Delivery 3.0  and Qualcomm quick charge 3.0 help prevent damage when charging this is an excellent option.
