FIRST IMPRESSIONS AND UNBOXING

JBL Quantum 610 Wireless Gaming Headphones

The first thing that I noticed upon opening the box was straight away, I was hit with a premium aura and feel. The headphones themselves are dressed in a black, fine felt-like material, making it appear like they were jewels of some sort. Revealing the headphones felt like a grand reveal due to this, and to be fair, the headphones in terms of the design were up to the standard set.

The headset was accompanied by a 3.5mm headphone cable equipped with a control dial, a wireless Bluetooth USB for when you want to use the headphones wirelessly and a wired USB Type-A charging cable for when you need to charge your headset or simply use the headset with a wire.

DESIGN AND FIT

JBL Quantum 610 Wireless Gaming Headphones

The headphones are in a sleek and stealthy black colour with small orange accents on the wires and inside the earmuffs. They are only available in this black colourway, which personally is fine as I am a big fan of less loud colours, however, if bright and bold colours are your preference, then this may be a problem for you.

You are compensated for the lack of colour with the very cool and flashy rainbow gradient JBL Quantum Lighting LEDs on the outer of the earmuffs. They are again another aspect that gives off a premium aura, with rainbow LEDs seemingly being the in design for gaming accessories at the moment.

As for the fit and comfortability, these headphones are equipped with 90-degree spinning earmuffs, meaning they are quite flexible and easy to fit on any ear size or shape. The cushion is just right, with the leather padding not being too firm nor too soft, an almost perfect balance for optimum comfortability.

When gaming, you want the headphones to feel like they aren’t even there, and with this pair, you almost get that feeling. My only criticism would be that the fit is slightly tighter than preferred, as the earmuffs seem to hug your ears quite snuggly, however, once you get used to the feel it is most definitely not a big problem.

AUDIO QUALITY

My instant thoughts on the audio quality of these gaming headphones were that they were exceptional in conveying most bass fuelled noises and giving a cinematic-like experience with its 3D surround sound feature.

For example, in FPS shooters (specifically for me Apex Legends) you could hear when someone was approaching from the right or left, or if bullets were being shot from a specific direction, you could distinguish where they were exactly coming from in relation to your character’s position.

Bombs and sniper shots were the most impressive-sounding effects, in my opinion, again giving testament to the excellent bass quality of these headphones. The sound quality was slightly ‘tinny’ for the higher pitch sounds, such as SMG bullets, scrolling in menus or general sound effects, however, it was not too noticeable.

VOICE CHAT AND WIRELESSNESS

Voice chat is quite hard to judge, as it depends on whoever you are playing with and whether their headphones are better or worse than yours, however, when in a group voice chat on both Xbox and PC, the general response I got was that I sounded very clear and easy to hear.

The wireless feature is very handy for when playing or being in a voice chat, as you can walk around and get a drink or something whilst still being part of the conversation or hearing what is going on in-game. The battery life is 40 hours, which is a very long time, meaning you don’t need to be constantly next to the USB port with your charging lead.

Additionally, I didn’t notice any drop in audio quality when switching from wired to wireless, meaning the wireless technology is one of very high quality and is a straight-up alternative to the wired, without losing any quality whatsoever.

OTHER FEATURES

One nifty feature that was a nice addition for people who often game and talk at the same time was the game/audio balance dial. This dial made adjusting what you want to hear out of the game sound and your friends extremely easy, something which is lacking on many headphones.

Finally, the headphones are compatible with Discord, Skype and Teamspeak, meaning you can pretty much use them on any of the biggest chat applications and not just when gaming.
