The MyFirst BC Wireless Headphones are a unique take on headphones for kids. Using bone conduction, we take a look at if this is a good option for your child.

First Impressions

The first thing that strikes me about the MyFirst BC Wireless Headphones is the lack of earphones that go in or around your ears. All that is there are two pad-like circles that rest on your cheekbones.

This along with the stylish dark grey colourway made for an interesting viewing, intriguing me to test them out for myself. Resting the headphones around my neck and ears felt like I was part of some Black Mirror episode, testing out futuristic gadgets.

However, I must say, the MyFirst BC Wireless Headphones were comfortable, with the rubber-like pads not being too noticeable, and the cord that goes around the head also sitting comfortably. Overall, my first impressions were positive.

Design

Rating: 4.5/5

The MyFirst BC Wireless Headphones, as I mentioned previously, are designed with unique bone conduction pads as opposed to the normal design of headphones. This choice of design was a great choice for kids as you don’t need to worry about their eardrums getting damaged at all.

Having the bone conduction pads also helps your child be more aware of their surroundings in public too, as their ears aren’t completely engulfed by sound. This does hinder the sound quality, however, from a parent’s perspective, the sacrifice of sound quality is worth it for your child’s safety.

The thin cord that goes around the back is solid as it hooks over the ear. It isn’t the most durable wire, but for a kid’s head, it suffices. With the overall weight of the headphones is only 26g, this is one area to note that they are rather flimsy.

There are two ‘boxes’ on each side of the MyFirst BC Wireless Headphones which both have their own purposes.

The left-sided ‘box’ seems to be just there for support, whereas the right-sided box has a USB charging slot and a volume button that also acts as the power on button. There is also a LED indicator that flashes when the headphones are pairing.

There is also a multifunctional button on the headphone’s right pad that according to the number of times you click it triggers different actions, whether it be answering phone calls, skipping songs or resetting the device.

Performance

Rating: 4/5

As I previously mentioned, the MyFirst BC Wireless Headphones are not exactly Beats level of sound quality.

Since the bone conduction pads aren’t in your actual ear, you don’t get any noise cancellation whatsoever, however, for a kid’s pair of headphones, this is good as it keeps them aware of their surroundings.

Nevertheless, the MyFirst BC Wireless Headphones are not too bad for sound quality, for example you can hear music clearly and any calls or podcasts sound decent enough.

The audio clocks in at a maximum of 85 decibels, ensuring safe levels of listening for your child. As for the audiophiles out there, the bass is rather limp and weak, however the mids and highs do the job for a kid’s pair of headphones.

But if your kid is looking for a pair of headphones that they can use in their bedroom, purely for music, then maybe it would be best to get a pair that is exactly that; built for music. The MyFirst BC Wireless headphones are definitely more suited to the casual listener of music, or simply a kid who enjoys portably listening to music.

mic

The built-in mic performed pretty well when calling, with it sounding clear to the person on the other end. The only downside of the mic is that it picks up a lot of background noise, however, for a parent calling their child, this actually could be a positive as it helps you know where your child is located.

Safety-wise, this is a parent’s dream. If you are a parent who is worried your child will be walking to school down busy roads with their headphones in, the MyFirst BC Wireless Headphones are a great choice as your kid can listen to their tunes whilst also being able to hear any oncoming traffic.

Conclusion

Rating 4.5/5

The main point I get when reviewing the MyFirst BC Wireless Headphones is that these are headphones specifically designed to keep your child safe. If that is your priority as a parent, then the MyFirst BC Wireless Headphones are a great choice, which seems to be a theme with ant MyFirst products that I have reviewed so far.

If what your looking for is a pair of headphones that have amazing sound quality, then the MyFirst BC Wireless Headphones are not the best choice whatsoever. However, for a kid’s pair of headphones, they are comfortable, easy to use and above all maximise safety.

To wrap it all up, the MyFirst BC Wireless Headphones are a great choice for kids, but if you value sound quality highly, then it would be best to look elsewhere. That is why I am not giving the MyFirst BC Wireless Headphones a 5/5 as it is slightly let down by the lack of sound quality.
