You may recognize the name Geomag, especially after our review of the Geomag Glow which incorporates learning and having fun and they are back again with the Mechanics Gravity Loops & Turns kit. This toy allows the user to build and create their own structures using an innovative magnetic cannon, spheres that move in harmonious motion and of course a little bit of gravity to help the magic happen.

Geomag Mechanics Gravity Loops & Turns Review

The Geomag mechanics allow you to redefine magnetic model building that you can even purchase additional combo packs such as:

  • Race Track
  • Gravity Motor
  • Elevator Circuit.

Geomag Mechanics is a newer expansion to the range which allows mechanical elements to use attraction and repulsion. The Mechanics Gravity Loops & Turns currently costs £29 via ToysRUs & Amazon and the pack comes with 130 pieces which are colour coded – Orange, Green, Blue & White and is suitable for children 8 years and up.

The packaging shows you a 2-level circuit with a small 360-degree loop which will show you the gravity factor. The packaging also includes two magnetic cannons and 10 metal balls to fire around the circuit.

Setting up is quite easy and the instructions are picture based or they give you the chance to view a video via the QR code provided. Once you have finished it should take you about an hour to set up from start to finish.

How does it work?

The Magnetic cannons fire the metal balls and there are two built into the circuit when fired they move with some speed. Then you need to reset the cannons and this is done with ease when they travel through the circuit they then end up in a little contained area and can then be fed back in.

The only slight negative is the ball does travel with such speed it goes through the full circuit a little too quickly and you will just find yourself just resetting the cannons and firing more than enjoying the motion of the ball through the circuit. You could say it’s part of the fun but after a bit of time repeating the process you might get a little bored.

A way around this is you could add extra kits together making it more fun as there would be more things for the ball to travel through.

Would I buy this?

The GeoMag Mechanics Loops and Turns is a fun toy to set up and use but I would purchase the additional kits all at once to maximise learning and excitement. Overwise the Loops and Turns kit on its own is fun for a small period of time then it will just get a little boring and your child will go off and do something else.

Price wise at £29 it won’t hit you in the pocket but as mentioned by the race track, Gravity Monitor and Elevator circuit really maximise the fun. Overall, this kit and the supporting kits help teach your young child the basics of magnetism and develop their creativity, imagination and intellect.
