The STM MagPod is a MagSafe Friendly accessory when you use your iPhone for movies, and social media perfect for travelling
STM Goods recently sent us the ChargeTreeGo and MagPod stand as part of their range of MagSafe Accessories. As an iPhone user, MagSafe is basically the new way I charge my device but the MagPod uses MagSafe as a tripod & Selfie handle that comes with two adjustable pivot points to ensure the perfect angle.
First Impressions
The STM MagPod measures in at the following dimensions 159 x 60 x 60mm and is fairly lightweight coming in at 241g. The MagPod is available in two colours:
- Black
- White
In this review, we have been sent the white version and it’s built using ABS plastic with silicone used on the feet and also around the area of the MagSafe Magnet. Compatibility wise it’s suitable for iPhone 12 and newer iPhones. Affordability wise it’s very budget friendly at only £38 via Amazon.
Design/Use
The STM MagPod comes with two pivot’s the first pivot is positioned under the magnetic disc that covers a 0-45 degree range and the second pivot that sits on top of the main joint that twists up to 90 degrees from straight.
Also inside the three legs, there is a hidden gear system that is very smooth to open and when you do open the legs the gear system works in unison to open all 3 legs together. When it’s time to close the 3 legs you will hear a click thanks to magnetic connectors in each leg that also keeps them closed when the MagPod is not in use.
The MagPod is portable allowing you to carry it anywhere and use it on the go especially useful for content creators. It can also be used on your office desk but it will take up a little space and won’t provide you with a charging facility. If you want a stand that charges your device consider the ChargeTreeGo.
The type of user the MagPod is designed for is a traveller who wants to want films on the go or gaming on a train or create a stand that a content creator can use to record new content for their followers.
The MagPod can also be used to mount the phone when having a conference call but you need your laptop for note-taking.
Verdict
The STM MagPod provides the user with a strong MagSafe connection at no time did it feel like my phone would fall off when connected. My son is currently doing a TV & Film course at college and he found using the MagPod a great tool when creating footage using his iPhone.
The MagPod is very well built and is designed to offer durability and all moving parts are concealed so they cant be damaged. We found both pivot joints to be robust and we did put this device under some pressure and it handled it with ease.
So if you’re looking for a stand that will use MagSafe or you want something with flexibility the stand adjusts in 3 ways: Legs open or closed and the entire stand rotates from the middle pivot and the head also moves up and down. You can also close the legs and use them as a selfie stick or open the legs and use it as a tripod stand. The adjustments of the middle and moving head will be a completely vertical position to a completely flat position in just a quick twist.
However, there is a downside taking photos using the tripod won’t work out very well no matter which way you set up the Magpod it was actually in your camera shot as you can see in the picture we have taken.
Overall the MagPod is a great product for someone who is using this as a stand for their iPhone. Perfect for watching SkyGo on your phone or making a conference call. It provides a convenient place to put your iPhone up and in a variety of functional positions. The MagPod is easy to adjust it’s just a shame it’s not going to be helpful for those who want to take photos or charge their device while on the stand.
