Majority Bowfell Plus 2.1 Soundbar with Subwoofer Review

First Impressions

The Majority Bowfell Plus 2.1 is a budget-friendly option to give your TV or gaming set-up a boost without taking too much room or without hitting the wallet as you will get a change out of £100 with this option.

We had to review this soundbar using our 65inch TV so the soundbar looks a little small my advice is to connect this to a computer monitor or a smaller size tv so it does not look out of place. The bowfell Plus 2.1 can be connected via Bluetooth, RCA & AUX and also an optical cable.

The bowfell Plus is a compact soundbar and subwoofer combo that will fit nicely in most rooms and will provide you with cinematic sound in your own home. The included subwoofer provides enhanced bass with a long throw connection and the system also comes with a remote control that allows you to select the right EQ depending on what you are watching from a high-action film to just having some background music.

Unboxing

Recently with Majority products, they have considered their packaging and tried to make everything recyclable so what you will notice is the packaging is minimal but there was quite a bit of plastic and unrecyclable material used so is the lack of a detailed user guide really doing enough to save the planet?

What you have instead is a QR code that will link you to a full user guide and Majority will also plant a tree for every product sold. Inside the packaging, you get the following:

  • Bowfell Soundbar
  • Compact Subwoofer
  • 1x remote control
  • 1x power cable
  • 1x RCA cable
  • 1x AUX cable

Design

The Majority Bowfell compact soundbar measures 38.8 x5.4 x7.2cm whereas the subwoofer measures 9×22.4×30.8 cm. The soundbar is very light at only 1.5kg and the subwoofer is just a little heavier.

They keep the design exactly the same as the previous model keeping things simple with a metallic black plastic coating and the metal grille covering the speaker drivers. On the right of the soundbar is that LED indicator light which will indicate which connection set-up you are using and next to that is the sensor for the remote control. Finally,  there is the Majority logo can be seen on the centre of the plastic cover that is around the speaker.

Moving to the right side of the soundbar is the power button, volume controls and 3.5mm AUX port.

Moving to the rear of the soundbar you have the USB port, Optical socket and power input and subwoofer output and finally, on the base, you have 2 rubberised feet to keep the soundbar secure.

Moving to the subwoofer they keep the design very simple fully black with a speaker grill at the front and a larger one on the side. To use the subwoofer it just needs to connect to the subwoofer output using the connected cable from the subwoofer.

Moving to the remote control it has 12 buttons that are all very simple to use such as the power, mute, volume controls, track control/Backstep & Forwardstep, Movie, Music and dialogue buttons finally treble and bass controls and a reset button.

The mode button is pressed when you want to switch between modes like below:

Performance

As you can see when you switch modes the LED will also change colour so you know which mode you are on.  As you can see you can connect via Bluetooth which will be the most popular method as this will allow you to pair to your TV, computer or phone. Unfortunately, there is no indicator that indicates which mode has been selected or know what the level of adjustment of bass, treble or volume. So for the modes, you need to remember which colour does what which is annoying.

We found when connecting this soundbar to my TV I found connecting via Bluetooth was problematic so I used the optical mode which the LED will appear orange you just need to purchase the optical cable and make some adjustments to my TV settings and it then worked perfectly.  You will find that once set up the use of the soundbar and subwoofer is very easy.

Sound Quality

The Majority Bowfell Plus might be budget-friendly but it will still offer you an increased improvement in your audio quality, especially if set up in a smaller room or as part of your computer gaming set-up.

The soundbar and accompanying subwoofer will fire sound directly at you as opposed to my TV speakers which direct the sound down due to the 100w power coming from the soundbar. The Subwoofer provides a long throw sound for enhanced bass. The subwoofer is capable of deep, thumping bass that will enhance anything you are listening to.

We tested this when watching my beloved Newcastle united was being shown and also when we watched a good number of films and we very much enjoyed the improvement of sound the vocals were clearer and when watching a film like Jurassic World the action was much more effective and the sound of the T-Rex really did make the film come to life much more. You might struggle with this soundbar in a larger room so just consider its positioning for it to be most effective.

Verdict

The Majority Bowfell Plus 2.1 soundbar with subwoofer is the perfect accessory to add an extra layer of sparkle to your existing set up whether its to add something extra to your gaming set-up or boos your TV sound without hitting the wallet hard then the Majority Bowfell Plus is something you should consider.

Could it be improved I would say yes the fact I struggled to connect the Bluetooth to my TV could have been easier to do apart from that the lack of HDMI was also an interesting miss from Majority but the fact you have the options of optical, RCA and AUX ports you will have a variety of connection methods.

So if your looking for a compact soundbar with a subwoofer and have to count the pennies this soundbar combo will do the business just consider the room you place it in as the smaller the room the better the sound. It makes dialogue and TV series clearer, and video games like COD more engaging.
