Looking for a compact walking treadmill that can also be used for running but can be stored away in your home with ease? Keep reading this review of the Mobvoi home treadmill.

For those who have read my reviews of the Mobvoi TicWatch E3 or TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS when I found out that they also produce products to complement the watches such as a home cardio machine, I could not wait to give this a try.

Mobvoi Home Treadmill Review

The Mobvoi home treadmill currently costs £338.99  which compared to over treadmills designed to use at home is moderately priced. What you will notice is the machine won’t feel as sturdy as more expensive models. What the Mobvoi home treadmill allows is for you to store this away with ease plus you can use it either as an under-desk walking treadmill with the side arms down or place the arms up for that full jogging experience.

First Impressions

As it sometimes is the case when we are reviewing items like this you will see signs of use its expected its a review sample. Unfortunately for us when we opened the packaging this product had seen better days. We were missing bolts for the two arms which would have been used to hold on while walking and we were also missing some screws for the phone holder on top of that we had no remote control or instructions.

However, did this stop us from testing this device out hell no! After a little bit of DIY and a visit to the garage in which I have tons of bolts and screws, we managed to get this fixed and ready to go. We found a user guide online and were ready to go. Unfortunately, I could not come up with a fix for the missing remote control but we still managed to use the treadmill via the touch controls on the treadmill which does limit the functionality.  If you were to buy a brand new model you would not face any of the problems we did.

Design

The Mobvoi home treadmill gets delivered flat-packed and can I say it’s very heavy coming in at 34Kg. Set up is a workout all on its own, especially in the heat we have been having recently. In terms of setting the treadmill up, it will take about 15 minutes. Normally you would have an instruction leaflet to provide you with steps on how to assemble if you want to use this as a treadmill to jog on.

If you want to use this simply as an under-desk treadmill apart from plugging it in there is not much more set-up you need to do. If like us you wanted to use it for jogging you will need to unfold the control panel which is done by unfastening the silver clasp on the right side of the machine and raising it into position and making sure you tighten that clasp. Then you would need to screw the sidebars and phone holder.

What you will notice and I guess is why the screws went missing on the review sample we have is when you are finished with the machine you need to unscrew the sidebars which can be a little time-consuming. It does have wheels at one end to allow you to move it when storing this machine away but it’s still quite heavy to move in my opinion.

The overall design is quite plain it comes in two colours black or silver in this review we was sent the black version. When you have unfolded the treadmill and are ready to use you will notice it comes with a touchscreen that has the following:

  • Start/Stop button on the left side
  • Buttons numbered 1 to 12 that correspond with km/h
  • +/- buttons to allow you to adjust the speed at 0.1 km/h

You will notice when using these that the buttons are not the most responsive and sometimes takes a couple of presses to increase or decrease the speed. You do have a phone holder on the machine but unfortunately, you can only have your phone in landscape mode. Also, you have nowhere to put a water bottle feels like an opportunity lost on this device if am fast walking or jogging I want to have my water bottle in close reach.

When working out you will notice a small LED screen that will rotate between your speed, distance, duration of the session and calories burned. The Mobvoi also has a safety feature which is a safety key that can force a stop on the treadmill.  Last but not least the treadmill also comes with a built-in Bluetooth speaker which can be paired to your phone. Ideal if you started the couch to 5k app and want to listen to your instructor or you can simply listen to some tunes to get you in the zone.

The Mobvoi treadmill also comes with a remote control that is useful for using the machine as a under the desk walking machine as it allows you to adjust the speed and also when to turn on or off. Unfortunately in this review that remote was missing in action so I could not test that out. The remote is also best for when walking as if your are running you will have no space to put it down anywhere.

Performance

I have been testing this machine out now for about 2 weeks now and found the machine to be nice and quiet if your using this just to walk expect a speed of around 5km/h seems to be a fast walking pace and you will hear your music no issues. When using the machine for a jog you still won’t hear the motor it’s very quiet allowing for your music to come through that speaker positioned at the front of the machine.

The belt on the machine is 100cm which is slightly longer than most walking treadmills making the option to jog possible. There is a but the belt is only 40cm wide meaning you will struggle to run plus you are capped at a speed of 12km/h which is not enough if you are considering high-speed workouts.

What the motor does well is keeping up with a 10km/h job with short bursts of 12km/h which is not bad for jogging but the max speed will not be any good if you are a regular runner. Also, the machine does not provide any incline option which really does limit your workouts.

What you will also find is the position of the LED screen that shows you the metrics of your run is poorly positioned meaning you will have to look down to find it and this may in turn affect your balance.

Verdict

Apart from the issues, I had with this review sample what you will find is this treadmill is mainly designed for someone looking for a walking treadmill and could be positioned for those who want to use it for under-the-desk exercise while working from home. Set it up for jogging and it also performed quite well but was limited on the speed and the width of the belt might also cause users a little problem.

The addition of a Bluetooth speaker was a nice touch but the phone stand is not the biggest so be careful as if you have something like an iPhone 13 Pro Max it might not fit. I used my trusted iPhone 12 and it fits well. The issue comes when you want to put it away you will need to remove the arm supports and also the phone support which can be time-consuming. Once removed it will fit away nicely in your living room if you have a sofa like in the below picture.

Considering the cost of £338 for the black or £399 for the silver models it’s a sturdy walking treadmill which will also allow you to do some mild jogging but if you are looking for a proper treadmill without any of the limitations I would shop around for sure.
