Now that most of us are leaving the home office behind and returning to the office. However, when it’s time to pack up your laptop and travel to work a laptop bag is essential and here at What Gadget we have reviewed a number of laptop bags in the past, such as the Targus Urban Explorer.
In this review, we have been sent the STM Myth, which is one of their flagship products. The STM Myth comes in 3 sizes 15 inches, 18 inches & 28 inches, ranging in price from £68 for the 18L to £77.99 for the 28L version. The bags come in 3 colour options: Granite Black, Slate Blue or Windsor Wine. The bags are available for purchase from STM Direct or Amazon.
Design/First Impressions
In this review, we were sent the granite black version of the STM Myth. The first impression of the bag is that it feels like a premium product. I love the colour style of this blend of black and grey really makes this bag stand out. The bag has been made aerodynamic to enhance its design lines of the bag.
The STM Myth uses Polyester in the main structure of the bag and on the handles STM uses thermoplastic polyurethane otherwise known as TPU. This is used to ensure durability and a water repellent coating has also been applied to the whole fabric used on the bag. The bag also comes with reverse coil zippers that protect the teeth of the zip. All of this protection prevents moisture from getting into the inside of the bag.
This STM Myth that we have reviewed is the 15-inch model, which allows measures up to 17.7 x 11.4 x 5.9 in (HxDxW) This can hold a 16-inch laptop as well as space for books or other accessories without feeling too heavy when heading out on the daily commute. It has a volume capacity of 18L, but the larger option gives you 28L.
In terms of keeping your laptop safe, the STM Myth goes the extra mile by using a padding technology called SlingTech. This adds extra padding and gapless corners that keep your laptop away from the edge of the bag, meaning it avoids the bump zone so that if you did drop your bag by mistake your laptop will have some protection.
Features
The STM Myth uses a CableReady system that lets you charge on the go. Your cords are out of sight using a reinforced hole in one partition, that also allows users to slip more than one cable at one time allowing you to charge multiple devices. The STM Myth also comes with an airpod pocket which can be used to store your wireless earbuds.
The bag also has a useful luggage pass-through handle, integrated within the lumbar support in the bag’s rear panel. This feature is something that makes this bag stand out. Last but not least in the hot weather the bag also has two water bottle pockets.
Performance
I have been using this bag regularly now for about 2 weeks and I was impressed with the loop on the zipper pull, this allows for you to use a padlock to keep the bag extra secure. The bag also comes with an air-channel system that was extra helpful as I do tend to suffer from a sweaty back from long periods of use.
Earlier in this review I mentioned this bag comes with a max capacity of 16L and this bag offers 4 compartments and 12 pockets to store things 2 of the pockets comes with a zip and even the compartments use a zip to keep them separate.
The bag also has an external USB port that allows the user to connect their laptop to a battery pack stored in a separate compartment. The bag does have its faults, for example, the haul loop could have been designed better as the strap can quickly become uncomfortable should you be carrying around a fully packed bag all day. Also, its thickness and width make it look rather flimsy.
Verdict
The STM Myth is a premium designed laptop bag and this is shown in the materials and design used in the backpack. The bag is not perfect as mentioned especially in regards to the haul loop, but apart from that it’s an excellent bag that I expect will provide long term durability.
If you’re looking for a laptop bag that offers extra support and a number of unique features, such as the cable loops, the air channel system, and the inner lining of the laptop compartment. Taking all these features into consideration, this should make it worth a look for your next laptop bag purchase. At £68 on amazon, it will keep your laptop perfectly safe and help you get back to the office in style.
